i'm 12 days from my RCS and i just wanted to give my experience for those having one soon - or if you have questions feel free to ask!
this was my second - my first was an emerg after being induced and 'labouring' for 3 days and dilating to 8cm. it was pretty scary for me and recovery was hard.
this time was much easier and i'm already up and about and doing light housework. i'm trying not to lift my 21 month old or do anything too strenuous but i'm feeling great. the experience was so nice and calm. i walked down to the OR and was really excited to meet our little guy. i'm barely bleeding, i've actually been wearing depends as they sit really high on my waist and don't sit on my incision. i'd also think about buying a pair of super soft sweats in a size bigger than you're used to so they just sit on your hips or above as not to sit on your incision. I find though that my inscision doesn't hurt...it's the skin above it just below my belly button. my Dr told me that's normal as that's the muscle and fat they had to get through to get baby out and is going to take a little bit to recover. my belly has gone down quite a bit although i still do look about 4 mos pg. ohwell!
make sure you ask to have the catheter put in AFTER you're spinal/epi - and don't rush to get it taken out if you're okay with it...i liked having it in as you will be SOOO thirsty and it's a pain to get out of bed to go pee so it was nice to just be hooked up! haha
I had a new nurse do my IV - if you don't like needles, ask for an experienced nurse to put it in! they had to try 4 times before they got mine in and it hurt! the last one didn't hurt though when the experienced nurse finally came in and took over! geeze........
for those having a RCS - just know that you're body will likely recover much quicker and as long as you're keeping up with pain meds and taking your stool softeners then you will do great! just actually take it easy like the Drs will tell you and make sure you have help to take care of all the extras at home. enjoy your baby time!!
hope it helps anyone with anxiety going into a RCS soon
***Edit -
i also spent only 2 nights in the hospital - much better being home, however the first night home was tough, i realized i may have pushed it being home. i didn't realize how nice it was having a hospital bed to raise me up to feed.
i was also able to hold and nurse DS2 right away as opposed to going to recovery alone with DS1.
Re: RCS - 12 days out...
Thank you for sharing your story. I have a few questions if you don't mind.
What time did you have your RCS scheduled for?
Did you have your Toddler visit you in the hospital?
How did your toddler handle you not being able to pick them up and the new baby?

I'm glad everything went smoother this time around. I also have a few questions...
DH didn't get to cut the cord with DD because she was in distress and had to go to the NICU right away, I didn't even get to see her. Well I got to see the top of her head. They rolled my bed into the NICU to hold her when I was done in recovery.
Did YH get to cord the cord this time around? And did your LO stay with you the whole time, or did they have to take him to the nursery for a bit?
i had swelling in my ankles after about 4-5 days - they said this was normal and just the rest of the fluids draining. my OB also told me to raise my legs above my head to help with drainage but that was impossible and kinda painful so i never did - may have helped with the swelling though.
DH was able to cut the cord right away - i imagine this RCS was similar to a vaginal birth with no complications. LO stayed with us in the OR and after they wiped him off and wrapped him they handed him to DH right away then to me. then took him back for a couple min to check him over fully (still in the OR). then gave him back to me again and wheeled us all down to recovery together. it was awesome because i was able to nurse and have skin to skin ASAP! i loved it. we were in recovery for only about an hour then over to our room to stay for a couple days.
