Are we crazy?

So this past weekend we told our families! We drove unannounced down to NJ to tell my parents. We live two hours away from them, but seeing as how this will be their first I couldn't imagine not telling them in person. We told them we drove down because we wanted to go to the dog adoption that they got their dog from. We have two dogs already, one of which is 11 and won't be around forever, so we've been thinking about getting another one, so this was totally plausible. My parents were so shocked and my mom cried. So we ended up getting a 5 month old puppy! We came home the next day and hadn't told DH's parents about the puppy or the baby, so they were doubly surprised!

So now we've got 2 dogs, a puppy and a baby on the way! And we just moved into our house 4 months ago, how crazy our we? DH says you only live once! Hopefully puppy is housebroken by the time the baby comes!

You aren't crazy...just enjoying life. I raised a seeing eye dog during my last pregnancy. Puppies and pregnancy go fine together so long as you have the energy for it. You should pip a picture of your new pup.

Lol- yup, you're crazy....crazy fun. One of my coworkers got a puppy when she was pregnant, and she thought it was great timing because the puppy forced her to get out of the house and go for walks every day, and the puppy and baby got to grow up together.

I'm thinking of getting another dog (not a puppy though) before the baby arrives... likely pretty soon. We have a 1.5 year old little guy who is very active and loves to play and I think that it would be good to have a playmate for him, especially since he'll likely get a bit less attention than he does now come September!

Also, taking care of the puppy, especially during housebreaking time, will help you get ready for baby I've had my dog for 13 years and I swear I went through post partum after I brought her home when she was 2 mos old. lol

Your level of insanity really depends on the dog breed. If you got something like a lab or german short haired pointer (we have one) you need to be committed! At least it is already 5 months. I've got friends that got a puppy, puppy and got the BFP about a week later. Their dog is an absolute disaster...going after pacifiers, any and all snacks, bottles, sippies, you name it.

LOL! Yes, you are crazy. Although, that plan sounds a lot like ours. We just moved to a new house, cat, toddler, one on the way, and we were planning on getting a puppy. But, I'm starting to think against it for now.

Hopefully the puppy has a good disposition. The only two people I know who got puppies while pregnant, didn't end well. Both gave them away to new homes within the first few months. One was jumping on the baby and on all of the babies things and the other got very destructive. Hopefully this puppy has a great disposition and will be a wonderful pup for you guys. What kind of dog is it?

Aww congrats!! We are getting a new puppy Friday! I've been begging DH for probably a year and he finally gave in and is excited too. Fencing in our back yard this week. Big steps!! :

She's a black lab mix. The other 2 are black labs as well. She's already learned a lot from her brothers in just a few days, who thankfully are pretty unflappable and mellow (unless it's thundering lol). She's met most of the neices and nephews (some of which are 2 or younger) and that went well. DH works for himself too, so I can always send the dogs off with him when LO shows up for some sanity if I need to.

In my last pregnancy, I got my BFP 4 days before bringing home our 8 week old lab puppy. THAT was not planned but it was how it worked out. It was rough in the first tri when I didn't have any energy but DH totally stepped up to the plate. She's a lab and she has been nothing but wonderful with AJ, they are totally best friends. You already have two, so you know how much work a lab is but you also know how wonderful they are. Double Congratulations to you!

Try a Thundershirt for your dog that does not like thunder. Google it and you can learn more about it. I have a few clients from the animal hospital I worked with that I told them about it and they loved it!!
