Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Still not liking solids

Does anyone else have a LO that still doesn't like solids? DS is almost 8 months old and not a fan. [he's 6 months adjusted] I'm not worried. Just wondering.

Re: Still not liking solids

  • Does he refuse to try anything?
  • Loading the player...
  • no he will try them and will eat a few puffs but he doesn't seem to really like anything. He will swallow and everything but I see pictures of my friend's kids and they all seem to love eating... I was just wondering if he was the only kid that didn't  like solids!!

  • DD loves pur?ed food but hates puffs. She will pick it up and put it in her mouth the. Immediately spit it out.

What kinds of things have you tried??

  • Also, not sure if it matters but he is EBF

he's had apples, pears, avocado, banana, acorn squash, green beans, sweet potatoes,  oatmeal and rice cereal. He's also had puffs.

  • DD was too until about a month ago and I had to switch to formula.

Is he still drinking the same amount of breast milk?

DD has had all of those foods too. It takes time. They are so used to liquid and then we start spoon feeding them things with texture and they are like whaaattt?

I have to remember that this is just practice and they aren't eating for nutrients or fullness- they get that from the formula or breast milk.

If he doesn't seem interested wait a month. Or keep at it with small amounts.

I am going to wait till DD is 8 months to try puffs again. Just pur?es and formula for now.

  • Yeah I'm not worried about nutrition, he is drinking plenty of milk and is gaining weight.  I know he's doing fine with all that.  I just feel like he's the only 8 month old that hates food! I keep seeing all these cute pictures with baby food all over the baby's face and wonder if it will ever click or if I'm going to just have a picky eater haha Mom and Dad both love food though so I'm pretty sure he'll come around haha

funny thing is that he seems to like puffs more than purees. he also likes apples and foods in his mesh feeder.  Maybe he just doesn't like the puree consistency?  I have no idea.  He has four teeth and I think he likes the feeling of them crunching stuff.

  • Have you tried Cheerios? My friend, her son is 8 months and she said he loves Cheerios for that reason exactly. He can crunch on them with his new little teeth.

It may be the consistency. I've noticed with certain things, depending on thickness or grittiness (pears) she has an initial reaction then with go from there. Either eats a bunch or only a couple bites.

I'm afraid of Cheerios. I'm scared he will choke since he's not a super fan of solids. Maybe if I break them up? I'm not sure if he's ready yet.
