Baby's head ALWAYS looking to the right

Anyone else's baby turning their head towards the right all the time? My DD does turn her head to the left to look at stuff, but she definitely favors the right a lot more! It's kind of odd. Is it just her?

Re: Baby's head ALWAYS looking to the right

  • It's funny you mention this, since I was just talking to DH about that.  H is the same, but to the left.

  • When I am holding D upright he tends to look to the left. Our pedi said it was not an issue as long as he had no difficulty or pain when looking to the right. He loves our bathroom mirror so sometimes I stand in there and have him follow his reflection until he is looking to the right and I keep him like that for a while just to be sure he is using all his muscles.

  • V does this too, and my pedi picked up on it. She diagnosed her with torticollus (sp?) which basically means she is uneven and her head could get flat on that one side as well as her muscles developing unevenly. As a result, we have to go to physical therapy. It's not that big of a deal and can be fixed especially if caught early, so I would ask your pedi about it.

    This exactly for us.

Ask pedi if you don't see improvement soon.
  • My LO favors the left, especially when sleeping or when I'm holding him upright.

As long as you are moving her head so she isn't sleeping on the same side all the time then you shouldn't have to worry about getting a flat spot and having to get the helmet to round it back out.

The pedi told us to just flip his sleeping so if he's laying with his head towards me turn him around so he's sleeping feet to me that way he moves his head around. KWIM?

We are in the same situation.  We approach him on the opposite side and do a few stretches.  It's also important we do tummy time as it will help him with his head position.
