No nap? (Long..sorry)

Let me preface this by saying that I plan to bring this up to her pedi at her 15 month appt next week, but of course I want to hear what you ladies think about it.

L just started getting into a routine of one nap per day bout a week or so ago, usually around 1pm.  She never sleeps for long (she never has).. I'm happy if I get 45-60 minutes out of her.

Yesterday, I thought was a fluke, because she refused to nap. She wasn't tired, she just wanted to play all day long. I tried running (waddling at this point lol) around with her, playing with the pots and pans, going up the stairs.. she was definitely exerting energy... but I got nothing!

Today... the same thing. She just wants to play, play, play. I've tried twice already to put her in for a nap and she just stands in her crib and wails at the top of her lungs.

She has been sleeping relatively well at night (for her, at least).. she's only woken up once or twice randomly w/in the past couple weeks or so... so I'm not sure it's teething.  She's been eating fine as well.  She just has flat out refused her naps the past couple days and I'm concerned this may be the start of something I wasn't ready for!

Phew.. ok.. sorry for the novel... I guess my question is.. is it too early for our LOs to stop napping altogether? I hope this is just a phase because now is not exactly the best time for L to stop napping.. I'm exhausted!!

  • The only way my older two would take a nap at this age was if they fell asleep in the car or if I would  lay down with them.  I feel for you!

  • This may be counter-intuitive, but have you tried putting her down for a nap earlier?  I know that sometimes if we miss the nap window he gets overtired and crazy and it becomes much harder to get him to sleep.

I was thinking the same thing, especially since you said that you only just transitioned to the one nap.  I doubt she'd be ready to go from 2 to 0 so quickly.  Hopefully it's either a phase or she needs to go down earlier.

Good points. I had tried to put her in before lunch for a few days, but it took so long, that I ended up bringing her back out to eat lunch and put her to sleep after she ate.. which worked for a few days.. maybe I should go back to trying before lunch again and see if there's any success. I will take anything at this point lol.

  • I agree with LCass and blu. I think you're probably waiting too long to put her down.

  • could just be a phase.  DD goes through phases.  She has never ever been a good napper.  she switched to 1 nap a day around 9months when DS didn't go to 1 nap till he was 1 & 1/2.

but DD definitely goes through phases where it's just an hour nap if that!  i think if she's bothered by teething she sleeps alot less.

my suggestion would be to try the nap around 2pm.
