My child WILL NOT sleep...HELP!

I don't post here often, but I am at my whits end right now! My almost 13 week old DS started sleeping a 4 hour stretch at night at about 6 weeks (only waking up once besides dreamfeed)...I was fine with that. He would only nap 20-45 minutes and eat 3-4 oz every 3 hours.

I started firmly following the E-A-S-Y 3 hour schedule at 8 weeks.

Well Around 10 weeks he finally gave me 1-2 hour naps in the swing, and 3 nights of a 5 hour stretch (waking up once a night). Right after that (around 11.5 weeks) he started only going 3 hours between feedings and waking up twice at night again. He still hasn't increased what he eats (since 6 weeks) and now only naps 20-45 minutes again.

I thought he may be overtired, but as soon as he yawns (about 50 minutes-1 hour after he wakes) I put him down. I used to be able to rock him until drowsy and put him down, but now I have to hold the pacifier in his mouth until he is completely asleep or he will scream.

I am going crazy over here! Any advice/ ideas on what this could be?

Re: My child WILL NOT sleep...HELP!

  • I have two suggestions that work well for my children; swaddling and an air purifier to create a lovely white noise...both at night only

  • You say things changed again around the 11.5 week mark which is typically when they go through another growth spurt. Alot of things are going on with LO during that time so the fact that his sleep/eating schedule became a little more hectic would probabley explain that. Now that he is 13 weeks, maybe try to give a little more to eat or cluster feed before bed time. Just try different things. I think sometimes after a growth spurt you have to begin a new schedule or get LO used to the old one. Good Luck!

  • Thanks! I did forget to say that we swaddle and use white noise every time we put him down. I was thinking it may be a growth spurt, but I thought he would eat more, not just change the times he eats. I also didn't know they could last so long...I'm just hoping that this phase passes quickly! Haha
