BTDT moms- a question

MH asked me last night if I was interested in getting a video camera for when the babe is here.

I hadn't thought about it much, but said, no. I need a new cell phone (like badly) so I said I would like a new cell with a video option.

So here is my question, would you rec a video camera for FTM's? If you have one, do you use it alot? Or will a phone work nicely for the few times I may think of it?

We got a video camera for our wedding. I'm shamefully lacking in video of my children. I just never think to get it out. I do prefer the quality of it over DH's phone videos though.

We got a Flip and had a video camera and rarely use either. We typically use our phones or our regular camera when we record short videos. If you don't have a DSLR type camera and it's an option, I'd definitely look into one. I am so, so happy we got one. The difference in shutter speed alone lets you get so many better pictures than the point and shoots since they are rarely still for pictures.

We have both. We use the camera on our phones a lot and for more every day little short clips. We really only break the video camera out for major events like birthdays, Christmas morning, sporting events, etc. Our video camera has a much better quality than our iPhones and I like being able to capture those special events that I know we will want to go back and watch over and over. We use both just for different occasions.

pretty much all of this. We did try to take a video with the camcorder at least once every month for the first year. It's been nice looking back and seeing how much he changed as the months went on with good quality.

We use ours all the time. I love to watch the videos from when he was a newborn. It goes so fast you won't remember half of it so I say it's a great investment. I use the one on my phone sometimes but I prefer the real video camera.

Thanks ladies. I do have a DSLR, but it does do video at all. I may see about getting an actual video camera down the road!

Just figured I'd chime in (even tho I'm a FTM) because I was considering the same thing. I actually need to replace my smaller camera (I have a DSLR as well but don't always have it available). What I'm thinking about purchasing is a Canon G15, because it will be a great go to camera and also records high quality video. I've never been one to record many videos, but I'm really hoping that because it's all the same device, I'll be more likely to shoot more videos, especially if I make an effort to carry it with me.

We don't have one. I take short videos with the camera or the phone, but I'm lucky if I remember to get out the camera, so I can't see myself using a video camera much or actually editing and watching the videos.

I have one. The phone is easier to use both to take videos and to share than the video camera was. With my phone (Droid), I point, take video, hit share. End!

I always just use the one on my iPhone. Or I have a point and shoot camera that I use for just the video option sometimes since I have a DSLR now for stills.
