STM: Infant head support?

Is an infant head support necessary for the carseat?  Something like this: https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12310201&fromRegistryNumber=48927138&product_skn=25310

Re: STM: Infant head support?

  • FTM but I was under the impression that if it is an "after market" product that wasn't sold with your particular car seat, it could void your warranty if there is ever a problem or accident.  A lot of the carrier style seats come with the infant head support as part of the package.  I'd check yours first!

Thanks!  I have a Chicco that does come with support but it doesn't seem as thick as this one.  We'll stick with the one that came with ours!

  • A nurse told me the same thing about after market head rests.  But then recomended  that I use rolled up receiving blankets instead.  Just a thought to check out. Im still not sure what I will do.

I literally just got home from having the car seat inspected and was told the same thing, although I would never use one anyway. Fwiw, I used a Chicco with DD1, and with this one too, but the newer model, and the headrest was fine.

  • Use rolled up receiving blankets if they need more support.
  • I heard recently that you're only supposed to use what comes with your paticular car seat, as the seat has not been tested/rated for safety with other inserts.

  • I worked in  a NICU as an RN and the after market thing is true.. I learned that from the people who checked the car seats fit in the car for the hospital (somw of our kids needed to meet special requirements.)

Roll up a receiving blanket next to their head and a washcloth in the crotch area if there is a lot of room between them and the buckle.

  • No... We rolled up blankets and wash cloths to support his head, worked great!
