Anyone experience this?

I went in for my 32 week appointment last Thursday where my doctor told me that according to tape measurement our little girl is measuring 3 weeks behind. This obviously immediately made me very nervous but my doctor tried to assure me that things were most likely fine since everything looked good at our 20 wk anatomy scan but that she wants to do an ultrasound on valentines day to make sure. She also requested that I do kick counts three times a day and try to rest a little more if possible.

I know I shouldn't but I have googled a lot and nothing sounds to serious except possibly  having low amniotic fluid and needing to deliver early. Has anyone experienced this and what was the outcome?

  • No LO is actually measuring quite a bit ahead but praying that everything is good like your doctor said. Yes

  • Our baby is also small and because of this I am being induced at 37w6d (2 weeks!). Basically the same thing happened to me, I was measuring small so they did an ultrasound to check the growth and found that the baby was only 8th percentile for weight.  If the baby is under 10th percentile, its call IUGR - intrauterine growth restriction. There's really nothing you can do about it and your doctor may have you do additional monitoring to make sure things are good with the baby's movement, cord, blood flow, and placenta.  Don't stress... there's nothing you can do except eat well!  Your doctor will let you know when you need to deliver.  If you are IUGR, it's common for your OB to not let you go past 38 weeks FYI.

  • Good to know! I don't want to be induced of course but if its best for my baby and I will get to hold her sooner I guess I can manage :)

I am not thrilled about being induced either.  I had a great drug free birth with my daughter and I was hoping to do the same again but things change and obviously I'll do whatever needs to be done for the health of the baby.  I decided that if I'm getting induced I am most definitely getting the epidural.  I hear pitocin contractions are awful and I don't really care to find out for myself that that is true.
