Share your solids "menu"

Just curious as to what others are serving on a weekly basis? Do you have like a menu you try to set at the beginning of the week?

Right now I just take stuff out of the freezer the night before, and depending on what's in there is what I take out. I try to rotate colors/foods so that he isn't eating too much orange, or greens (It seems like those are the only colors in food we have!) So I was curious what other mommies were doing!

TIA!

Re: Share your solids "menu"

  • I do blueberries/banana , apples and pears . I pair the apple and pairs with greens and the purples with the oranges or rotate every other day.

  • She is eating mini meals now: yams, w/ ground beef and rice, for example. She also likes beans.

  • No set menu but I try to rotate so he is trying and eating lots of different things.

Right now he has fruit or veggie and cereal for breakfast. I change up the cereal between oatmeal, barley, and whole wheat.

For lunch he has fruit or veggie. I also just started giving him a few puffs after he eats lunch to practice picking up.

For dinner he has a puree with meat (turkey, chicken, beef) with veggie and cereal.

I also let DS try things we eat too; I just break it up small. I like for him to try lots of things.

  • Breakfast: scrambled eggs and fruit, oatmeal and fruit, waffle with puree as a spread or pancake with puree and fruit, yogurt and puffs in between.

Lunch: Chicken or beef shredded with beans or rice, pasta made various ways, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, cheese and some kind of fruit usually.

Dinner: Pretty much the same as lunch. We try to give him as much of what we're eating as possible. Last night we had tacos and I basically gave him all of the taco stuffings on his high chair including the tortilla.

  • Im horrible with solids. We dont even do a breakfast every morning. When we do a puree in the morning, we do veggies smoothie, fruit- whatever we have. We do a puree and some sort of solid at dinner time, like bread, diced peaches, bits of ham/chicken. We do snacks in between. I have his "french fries" which are veggie straws and his puffs.

Im trying to get on a better schedule for him. I suck Stick out tongue

are you doing the meals pur?ed or in small pieces? I haven't been doing pur?ed foods...DS was getting mostly fruit and veggies..recently gave him tofu...we haven't tried any meats yet.

  • My DS is loving grilled cheese.

  • Man! I feel really behind :)

What pancakes do you use? And as far as scarmbled eggs go, do you just use the egg yolk??

    nbsp;

This is how I feel after reading all of the responses. We're still getting through different types of pure foods. Although we started late at 6 months so I'm not rushing him. He's horrible with his bottles and I guess that's why we've been behind trying new things. I recently have him puffs broken up and he loves it!

I feel the same way! We jsut started her on solids at 6 months she's only had solids about two months. We had to transition her to formula too just recently so that's been my main priority to get her to eat that.

I started all my boys at 5 1/2 - 6 months and all were on total table food by 7-7 1/2 months. DS2 never did purees b/c he is my little independent one and refused to let us feed him even at 6 mths old. DS3 has done a combination but is mainly on what we eat. The only thing I stay away from at this age is honey since we have no history of food allergies.

Tonight he had baked pasta and bread. At lunch he had grilled cheese and bananas. He loves chicken and black beans too. For breakfast, he has oatmeal or pumpkin or blueberry muffins that I make.

For eggs, I do the whole thing and usually add cheese or sometimes kale or spinach. He loves it.

  • DS eats what we eat! He is so not picky it's awesome. I usually make curries or quinoa or spicy chilli. The spicy stuff I thought he would hate but he gobbles it up. I don't avoid anything with him anymore except eggs and cows milk for the moment. We don't pure or anything anymore either he just eats little tiny portions of our meals.

do you cut the food into little pieces or do you give it in chunks?

  • I cut it up into small pieces but I only put 2-3 pieces on his tray at a time. I made sure he chews them up before giving him more. He can pick it up and put it in his own mouth.

  • As far as egg, no, I use the whole egg. We have no known food allergies so I went ahead and did eggs. Pancakes- I just buy Target brand frozen ones. Haha

I cut everything into small or long "finger" shapes. Depending on what it is.

  • We do only purees so far. I pick out the frozen homemade food cubes the night before and put in the fridge to take to daycare.

In the morning, he gets 2 oz. Almost always 1 veggie + 1 fruit, mixed together.

At lunchtime, he gets 2 oz. Either 1 veggie + 1 fruit again, or 1 veggie + 1 meat.

    Favorites combos are:

    carrots/butternut squash/sweet potatoes+peaches
    spaghetti squash+applesauce
    green beans+applesauce
    peas+pears
    chicken+carrots/butternut squash/sweet potatoes
    spinach+pears
    spinach+cottage cheese
    banana+anything
    avocado+green beans+apple

I offer blw-type foods for supper just for practice for him picking them up and putting in his mouth, but he usually gags and spits everything out once it's soggy. We've tried yogurt melts, puffs, rice cookies similar to mum mums, toast fingers. His favorite is gnawing on orange slices with the rind left on.
