Pregnant after 35

B6 for nausea

I started taking 25 mg of B6 three times a day with a little food. I have to split the tablets because the smallest tab at the store is 50 mg. I read results of a few clinical trials that showed it works for some women.  Pregnant women are recommended to not take more than 200 mg B6 per day. You might try it, though, of course check with your nurse triage line and check how much is in your prenatal.

My nausea is gone. I still have bloating and constipation...so I don't think that lack of nausea is from transitioning to past it. I also still do the other tricks with small frequent meals and ginger tea and gin gin suckers.

Re: B6 for nausea

  • The 25mg of B6 three times a day only helped me intermittently; glad it worked so well for you!

  • I took 50mg twice a day, and then whatever was in my prenatal vitamin at night, along with unisom, and I found that worked significantly better than 25mg doses.

  • Hmm. Good to know it is out there for women to try. I feel like with MS I just want every woman to have every tool available to her to see what will work. I'm not sure why it took me so many weeks to hear about it, but glad I know now!

  • I tried it,  but it didn't help the full blown morning sickness that kicked in at 7 weeks.   Zofran has been the only thing that has helped me stop vomiting- and the only thing that allowed me to keep necessary thyroid meds in my system.

  • I tried it with no luck.  I have been taking zofran but that isn't helping a ton either.  Phenegran is the only thing that helps me, unfortunately it makes you sleepy which isn't good since I work full time.  I take a 1/2 pill when I am desperate enough at work.  I'd rather be sleepy than nauseous.  At 13w, i am hoping i am finally turning the corner now.  I've managed to go without phenegran for 3 days now (just one zofran in the am).
