Hey ladies! I posted on PgAL here and there and now I finally get to be here. Our beautiful baby boy was born 3 weeks ago on January 15th via c-section. He gave us a scare early, though, as he had low blood sugars about an hour after birth. They gave him formula (it was so low that trying to get him to latch and get enough breast milk at that point was scary) and it came up, but it wouldn't stay up. Finally the middle of the 2nd day, he had 3 blood sugars in a row that were great and so we could stop the almost hourly heel sticks. We ended up supplementing with formula until my milk came in. He has a horrible latch (even with a bottle), so I'm just pumping. My supply hasn't been great, and I'm only pumping about 3 ounces per day, which is frustrating to say the least, since he eats 3oz in one feeding. So he gets about 1 bottle a day that's breast milk and the rest is formula. I'm trying fenugreek and lactation cookies to increase my supply.
He does pretty well at night (knock on wood) and sleeps from 3-4 hours between feedings. We're pretty lucky, for sure, and sometimes I'm just waiting for the day for the other shoe to drop and we get no sleep!
My history is in my siggy, I'm 32 (my birthday was 8 days after DS was born!), DH is 30. I'm an oncology nurse. I'm glad to finally be here and hope to be participating more.

I'm glad he made it home safe, and hope you can get your supply up (but even if not, that's certainly okay). I'm sorry about your previous losses, but yay for a beautiful boy to snuggle and love on

Congrats and welcome! Do you have a lactation consultant that can help you with the latch? That may help you out. If you don't have one/can't find one, try La Leche League for references. I found it helpful to have someone actually watch me nurse and fix things. I was amazed at how quickly I got over the shyness of having my boobs out to strangers. Regardless, congrats on your sweet little boy!
ETA: EPing is hard. If you want support on that front, let us know. Quite a few of us (including me) have done it. It's also completely and utterly ok to formula feed. The key thing is that your baby is healthy. Whether you make the food or make the bottle is irrelevant if your baby is healthy and growing.

We had a great LC in the hospital, she was very helpful in trying to get him to latch, and was supportive of me pumping, especially when we were so volume-focused because of his blood sugars. My nipples are flat, and even with a nipple shield he wouldn't latch. I'm okay with EPing. I would be more excited about it (it's kind of frustrating now) if I could actually get more than an ounce per session. I don't love being attached to the pump and it makes it harder to do things during the day (bottle feed him and then spend time with the pump), but I'm okay with it. It is what it is. I'm okay with FF, too, but....I love that he gets milk from me, you know? I love that he gets to drink milk that I made...I just wish I made more of it.
