Baby Names

Going in circles over boy names

Need some help.  DH insists boys need more traditional names than girls (we have two) or we'll be painting a target on his back.  My style's a bit more adventurous but not you-neek.

He likes:

Nathaniel

William or Liam

That's it.

I like:

Hugo

Lennox

Nash

etc

Any suggestions that might work for both of us, beyond flipping a coin for who gets to choose the fn and who gets the mn?  BTW, tried Nymbler and it just vomited apparently random lists at us. It was good for a laugh tho.

TIA

Re: Going in circles over boy names

  • I like more "adventures" names too, but from the list I'd go with something from your DH's list. Good luck finding something :

  • I like Liam (not William) and Hugo.

I do disagree with your DH about gender and names though. Statistically girls are more emotionally hurtful when it comes to things like that.

  • Your h has a better list. Hugo is ok.

  • Hmm, I do like his names a little better than yours, but I think you can find something to work with.  Here are some names that popped in my head:

Maxwell, Simon, Hugh, Dashiell, Warren, Emmett, Everett, Felix, Ian, Oliver, Arthur, Sullivan, Franklin, Jude, Lawrence, Vaughn, Marshall

  • Liam Nash sounds great. Liam isn't that traditional of a name, and Nash could be a NN. When he's old enough, he can decide which he likes!
Hugo Liam doesn't sound awful either, but I think Hugo is....a lot of name for a little kid!

  • How about Pierce, Spencer or Henry?
  • Thanks for the feedback, ladies.  I anticipated that more ppl would prefer his style since it is pretty classic and classy.

We do both like Alexander but as a mn only.

I should clarify that DH dislikes a lot of mainstream names and all the top boy names w/ the exception of Alexander and William.  He either has bad associations with them or runs them through his merciless tease machine and then rejects them.  Basically, I'm searching for something familiar but not boring that I could tempt him with.  Don't know if it even exists.  I think boy names are much, much more difficult than girl names.  We'd decided on shortlists already by this time in my prior pregnancies.

Also, I do like Liam but have cooled on it lately as it's flying up the charts.

In case this helps, more names I like--DH's list remains unchanged.

Thx!  To my astonishment, DH actually really likes Dashiell and Arthur.  So our list grows by two.  :)

I was actually going to suggest Griffin, (my LO's name) as it is "different" without being strange. (Also, oddly, my dads name is Milo and my DH's name is Seth, lol).

I do love Griffin.  Milo and Seth are just plain cool.  I can't see why anyone wouldn't like them.  I hope these three grow on DH over the next few months.

    BTW, your son is adorable!

  • Thanks for all the help.  I think we'll probably end up using a traditional name together with one of mine unless we happen upon "The One" before Zig's born.

    Good vibes all around.
