So I'm having this kid earlier than expected... my OB scheduled an induction for February 20th. This baby is IUGR and they don't want me to go past 38 weeks so I am scheduled for 37w6d. Last time I had a great drug free birth but that's not going to happen this time so I'm slightly terrified of the whole process. I know everything will be just fine but it's hard not to worry a little bit.
Our state of readiness is a joke. Olivia's new room is maybe 50% done and the crib and everything else is still in boxes. I haven't washed a thing. I guess I really need to get on the ball! I'd appreciate any T&Ps! Hopefully we can make it til Feb 20th and I just hope we don't have any complications from this tiny little baby.
On the upside, I can't wait to find out the sex!!!!
Re: So I'm having this kid earlier than expected
I forgot that you were Team Green! How exciting!
good luck with everything. I remember slightly freaking out a week before Gator was born, thinking I wasn't ready.....running around washing everything in sight and getting the crib set up. We didn't even use the crib until she was 2mo, and all we really needed after we left the hospital was changing supplies and lots of footed jammies for her for like the first month. Haha!
I think I'm due a month after you, and I know exactly what you mean about not having anything ready! At this point last time around, I had all L's clothes washed and most of her nursery set up. This time.. nothing lol. Although we plan to use the cosleeper for the first 3 months anyway.. you could do that so you don't have to worry about the crib? Just a suggestion obviously :-)
Also, I don't mean this to come across as rude/b*tchy or nosey... but why are they inducing you early if the baby is small? L didn't have IUGR, but her belly was under the 10th percentile, so after I hit 40 weeks, they induced me. Obviously I know each case is different, so no judgement here, just curious.
I hope your LO stays put until the 20th, keep us updated!
Oh and I can't wait to hear if you have a boy or girl! I would never be able to be team green lol
You still have 15 days, you can totally do this.
Thinking of you and wishing you the best of luck.

T&P your way for an uncomplicated delivery, quick recovery and a healthy baby! I hope everything goes well until then and you have a little more time to get ready for the arrival of the little one
ETA: word
The baby is going to sleep in our room for probably 3 - 6 months so its fine if we don't get things done but I would just like them to be done so I don't have to deal with it after. If the baby came today, I know everything would be fine. I mean we have a car seat, somewhere to sleep and something to wear so in theory we are good! It's just mostly funny to me how much more procrastinating I've done this time around but I think that also comes from realizing as a STM, your newborn doesn't need much!
I was asking my doc the same thing about IUGR because I was thinking that they'd want the baby to cook in there as long as possible. She said that after 38 weeks, the benefits of staying in aren't worth the risk of the placenta or cord having issues. Being IUGR, they already suspect that there is a problem with one or both of those things so don't want to keep the baby in for longer than is necessary. My doc basically said that at that point, we'd rather have them out when we can monitor them and make sure they are getting everything they need than keep them in trying to get nutrition they might not even be getting. So that's why I guess it's pretty standard to induce for IUGR around 38 weeks.
Things will come together just don't stress yourself out.
Ah, thank you for explaining that, it definitely makes sense.
And ITA with you about the STM thing... I was so over-prepared the first time that now I realize it was just added stress I didn't need... you're right, newborns don't need much :-)
Good luck!
I have a stupid question: what is IUGR?
Intrauterine growth restricted.. I had never even heard of it either until DS1.
I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this but that is great that you can make it until 38 weeks! DS1 was growth restricted and 5.3 when I was induced at 36 weeks. He did great and at a year was 23 pounds!
For the posters that asked about why they usually induce, being growth restricted is usually due to something caused by the cord, placenta, etc.. the specialist explained it to me as your baby is on a very strict diet during a crucial time and there comes a point where it's healthier for them to be on the outside so they can grow properly.
