Just curious. I played trumpet when I was a wee one. Wasn't too shabby either. !st trumpet 1st chair ;-)
After high school I picked up the bass and never looked back. I am nowhere near great, but I can hold down a rhythm like you wouldn't believe. Been in a couple bands. Mostly of the hard rock/metal variety. Sing too.
Anybody got any band war stories to share?
Re: Any Dads here musicians????
This is my story minus the college playing. And I'm probably worse with a guitar.
I've played around with a couple different bands. Some of my proudest moments were playing CBGB in NYC back when it was still open. That was a pit, but it had a great feel to it!
We also played a festival in Central MA. There were maybe 20-30 local/regional bands as well as a dozen or so big names. 20,000 people in front of you, whether they're actually listening to you or not is friggin cool!
I'm jealous. Seriously. I've always wanted to learn.
The thing I took from piano lessons, more than playing, was my ability to read sheet music. I love being able to listen to music as if it is travelling a staff.
If you can read music, you can teach yourself how to play piano pretty easily.
