Am I the Only One?

Hi ladies-

Figured I'd ask you for some advice since you are so great!  I keep reading everyone's posts, saying their nursery is done, their bags are packed, etc and I am the exact opposite. The purpose of this is not procrastination, I just planned on waiting until after my baby shower this weekend to start getting things rolling.  Am I the only one this far behind??

Re: Am I the Only One?

  • I'm almost done with the nursery, but I haven't packed my bags yet.  So, half yes and half no?

  • I don't see anything wrong with it. I haven't packed my bag and I still haven't set up a lot of baby's things. I had my shower this weekend and got so much stuff and I set up after that.

  • No. But I'm in my phone and cant see how far along you are. I'm 32 weeks and just had my shower but we still need a lot of different things. Therefore, the nursery isnt done yet. We are just now buying the car seat and stroller tomorrow also. And, I have yet to pack my bag. You're not alone.

  • Nope, and I am not having a shower.  My nesting instinct is apparently broken this time around. :(

  • With the nursery I have just given up my in-laws gave us some really super ugly furniture that my DH just could not say no to. So now i have this beautiful crib, a dresser that does not match that has loud drawers with a really horrible smell inside them, and a rocking chair that has awful green leather upholstery on it. I did organize the closet, and this wicker stand i have for blankets and diapers but that is about it. No bags are packed either. I am really stumped on what to  put in them.

  • We've put the crib together and it's sitting in our dining room and I've got clothes folded and separated into bins. That's as far as we've gotten.  Our office actually still needs to be turned into a nursery (it needs a door- right now it's open to the hallway).  So, basically we're pretty far off.  Oh well.  We'll get there.

  • I am guessing most of us were in the same boat pre-baby shower.  After that is done im sure you will get everything ready.

    Exact same.

  • I'm not having a baby shower (that I know of) before LO arrives (who knows...perhaps some family is planning a surprise shower like they did for my bridal shower? Doubtful though). I know that my colleagues are planning to have a shower for me after baby is born though.

So DH and I have been preparing for LO's arrival without the help of anyone else. That's fine because we don't expect anyone else to do that for us anyways. We won't have a nursery anytime soon because my SKs moved in with us last summer (four days before getting our BFP) and they each have their own rooms. SS is 11 and SD is 7. We don't want them sharing a room and we don't think it's fair to put the baby in SD's room either...so LO will be in our room until we figure something else out. We rent...so we may move into a larger home in the summer or fall.

We've ordered a playard with bassinet and a travel system and are just waiting for them to come in. We have a ton of clothes, blankets etc. that are washed. We just received a closet organizer in the mail today so I'm about to go and put all of the clothes in it tonight. The diaper bag is half-packed (will be finished tonight once I pull out the outfits I want to pack). I haven't packed my own bag yet but will be doing that in the next day or so. I have pretty much everything I want to put in it. I just need to pack it all up!

So I'd say we're halfway ready. If baby came tomorrow, we wouldn't necessarily be ready because the playard and travel system aren't in yet. But if LO were to arrive tomorrow, we'd be in NICU for a while anyways. I think that by time he comes, we'll be as ready as we're going to be. A few weeks ago I was stressing out about not having ANYTHING purchased or packed. So over a couple of weeks we slowly started ordering the things we need. Online orders have been coming in and I did a bunch of shopping to get all of the necessities so I feel much more prepared than I did a month ago.

  • I have no nursery and no bags packed!  How's that for being pro-active?

For the nursery, we are moving the weekend after Valentine's so I plan on setting it up then.  I have everything I will need (mostly) so it will just be having to get it set up.

I'll probably pack our bags this weekend.  I keep debating waiting until we move or just doing it now, but I figure I'll just go ahead and get it done.

  • Lurking from the February board... I am due Feb 19th, and I still need to do a lot. Like buy newborn diapers, and get a co-sleeper so the baby will be safe in my bed those first few weeks/months. Not to mention the frozen dinners I need to buy ingredients for and cook... :S

You're not the only one ;)

My nesting instinct is limited only to the nursery. DH wishes it would extend to the rest of the house.....bathroom needs serious cleaning!

  • With DS#1, I didn't pack my bag until about 8 hours before I was scheduled to go to the hospital for an induction.

For this baby, I might pack something small and keep it in my car (I had a fast labor with #1), but I am not stressing since DH can always go home and get what I need.  You really don't need much for the first day or so.  A toothbrush would be nice, and a camera of course.

  • You're fine, we just finished painting the nursery, but don't have any furniture set up in it yet.  Closet system still needs to be installed, and all the baby's clothes/blankets/cloth diapers still need to be washed.  About all we've done is paint, pack the hospital bag (which takes all of 20 minutes), and I've started freezing a couple meals.  Plenty of time.
  • nope your not the only one i am just as behind as you i have the baby bed up and that is all

  • 35 weeks and all I have is an empty room that needs to be painted, car seat, and PNP.

Shower is this weekend, but we still need to get furniture to have someplace to put the gifts away!

  • We have the room painted and dh will be cleaning excess paint off the floors tonight from when I originally painted when we bought the house. Once he does that I will be doing a full cleaning of the room and then we will be moving the furniture back into the room and getting it ready.  The crib should be arriving any day now and I am picking up the mattress today from babies r us.  I do not have my bag packed, but plan on getting that started once I get room set up.  My shower isn't until the end of the month. (MIL is going into surgery :( the original week my best friend planned and she wants to be there so it was delayed it a bit for her recovery).  I don't feel I am too far behind. My goal was to be ready by week 35 and for the important stuff, I will be.  I am 33 weeks, so I feel comfortable where I am at prep wise. We have a playard that we can also use as a bassinet, stroller, car seat and swing already. I feel we have the important stuff at this point. Oh and I just ordered my diaper bag. Great deal on one on Coach Factory Outlet so super excited about that!

  • Thanks for the reassurance! Glad to hear I'm not the only one! Looking forward to getting started on everything next week! :)
  • You are not alone. My shower is this Saturday and I figure once that is over I will know what is left for us to purchase. We are turning my husband's studio into the nursery and it is still full of his canvases, paints and artwork. We were planning on moving it all out this Friday but now with the impending snow storm, I am not sure what will be happening. I have not packed my bag yet but I did buy a new robe and pajamas back around Thanksgiving time.  :)

My MIL keeps saying she is going to buy the crib so hopefully that happens soon because it takes 8 - 12 weeks to get here but honestly as long as we have the bassinet I'm sure we'll be fine.

We have the car seat already so I'm not too worried... yet!

    :)

  • NOPE. We just cleaned out the room for the nursery last weekend, and we've been receiving the furniture this week. If we're lucky, we'll get it set up this weekend, but probably not done for another week or two after that. As for packing a hospital bag, not remotely. I'm not due till the end of March and for some reason, I suspect I'll be overdue anyway. I won't start feeling the pressure until 37 weeks, and even then, I'm probably not going to be as on-the-ball as most people.

On the upside, we're narrowing down our childcare and pediatrician options! I promise I'm not totally useless!

Fear not: you'll get everything done in time and even if you don't, baby will be just fine!
