Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Sippy cup woes...advice needed!

My LO knows how to use a sippy up, both the tilt and the straw.  The problem is that after a sip or two, she starts playing with the liquid in her mouth (water or milk) and then open her mouth and it all dribbles down her shirt, making it soaking wet.  We've started using the bibs that are plastic that prevent it from seeping into her shirt.  Now it just runs down to her pants and soaks her there!  LOL!

Anyway, any advice as to how to get her not to play with her milk/water?  I was hoping to stop bottles soon, but I'm guessing we have a ways to go...

Thanks!

  • My DS did that for a little bit too.  At 12 months he went off the bottle cold turkey.  He dribbled his milk for about a week or so and then he got the hang of it and he really doesn't do it anymore.

So, my advice is too stick with it and she'll get it.

  • OMG!  I remember this and completely forgot about it!  We did the same as others and took it away.  I did find that if what she was drinking was too cold she did it more.  She was BFed until about 10 months and so I think part of the adjustment was the cold.  Sometimes I think she was just playing.
