  • Adlai will be mispronounced/misspelled constantly.  It sounds feminine.

Elliana is okay.  Emaline looks misspelled/made-up.

    This.

No one else will ever know the strength of my love for you. After all, you are the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside.

  • Adlai will be mispronounced and sounds feminine to me. NMS!

Eliana spelled this way is nice.

Emmeline spelled this way is my favorite!

  • I love Emaline but spelt like this Emeline. It looks better

  • I think Adlai Stevenson, which I remember as being pronounced as Adlay or eveb Ad-a-lay but I could be wrong.

Elliana is my preference between the two girls because I feel like Emaline should be Emmaline.

  • Adlai brings to my mind failed presidential candidate Adlai Stevenson. I doubt most people will know who he is, so you'll get weird looks from people who've never heard it. There's also the pronunciation issue, as well as the fact that it sounds almost feminine.

Elliana is one of those new names that I can't stand. Ugh.

Emaline is a legitimate and pretty name that is misspelled. Either go with the traditional spelling or go back to the drawing board.

Take it from someone with an alternate spelling of an 80s girl name: the novelty of uniqueness when naming your child is not always appreciated later in life. Pick something that won't make your child side-eye you when they're older.

  • Not a fan. Sorry

  • Adlai is correctly pronounced add-uh-lie.  If you prefer something different, spell it differently
  • I am all for making names unisex, but I'm havimg a difficult time considering your boy choice.

Elliana is a very pretty name, but Emaline just looks as if the pronunciation would be off, perhaps Emeline, err EhmElleIne, or adding that extra 'm'?

    Adlai is masculine not "unisex".

  • I like Adlai. I wouldn't use it but I find it charming.

The girl names are not my style. They look a little off to me.

  • I really like Elliana. the adlai name just looks wrong, he'll have a hard time in school with a name like that
  • I prefer Adlai pronounced Ad-lay.

I like it, but prefer Emmeline spelled this way.

  • Responses like the ones you are receiving make me lament the American educational system. I like the sound of Adlai, but since it is uncommon he'll always be associated with Adlai Stevenson (at least for those who pay attention in history class. Hmm)

    I prefer the spelling Emmeline.

  • Not a fan of the boy's name, he's going to have to go through a lifetime of correcting people on the spelling and pronunciation.  I like Emaline.  Not sure about the other one.
  • the only one i like is eliana if you spell it this way
  • I love Emaline. Makes me think if Anne of Avonlea. :
I like Elianna too, but "Anna" names are getting pretty popular, I think they're going to be the next "Bella" :/

I understand it's masculine in its origins, its a biblical Hebrew name if I'm not mistaken? I was simply trying to state that while I in general like names commonly seen as feminine names on boys and vice versus, it doesn't sound masculine IMO.

I think I'm coming from the view that more often than not unisex names are not actually unisex. Meaning that it doesn't go both ways. I constantly see masculine names used for girls but rarely feminine names for boy. Do you see what I mean? Several good masculine names become "unisex" because they end in a vowel sound or were originally surnames (many of which are originally masculine)

I think a name can sound masculine even if it ends in a vowel sound.

  • Sorry but I am not a fan of any of your names. I really dislike the boys names. It sounds feminine.
  • I agree that Adlai will probably be mispronounced a lot .... although, I'm not quite sure why people have such a hard time with the "ai" making an "i" sound.  But that's just me ..... lol.

Not a fan of Elliana ... sorry.

But, I do like Emaline .... but I don't like this spelling .... it doesn't look right at all.  I would go with the more traditional spelling ..... Emmeline.

Ending in a vowel sound? Ex: Wesley, Cody, Brady, Elijah, Noah, Levi? If this is what you mean, I agree; names can sound masculine while ending in a vowel sound.

Levi would be a good example as it can rhyme with Adlai.

Unfortunately people use Levi on girls as well (I know 2)...because they think it sounds feminine. I just think it's odd. That's all.

  • LOVE Adlai. A friend's son is named this and it is just such a cool, unique name.  They call him Ad.
