I know this doesn't currently effect most of us or all of us but I know some have some chunky monkeys. New car seat safety recommendations are not to use the LATCH system if your baby and the car seat weigh more than 65 pounds combined.

Re: Car Seat Safety
40 lbs has been the conventional LATCH limit for just the child, the carseat does not contribute to that total. Some newer cars support a much heavier LATCH limit. It seems like a little known fact that LATCH anchors should only be used to 40lbs in many cars.
Oh OK...I was completely wrong about it being the total weight then. I will have to remember that it is just the weight of the kid. I have no idea how much our car seat weighs but I would be shocked if it was over 10 lbs; it feels pretty light.
ETA: Ok I am shocked. the weight of our Britax is 22 lbs. Still under the 65 lb limit though if I use the latch until DS is 40 lbs.
Stupid question... do you not use latch with forward facing car seats?

Although they are chunky the time it takes to get from 25-30 pounds to 40 pounds is years. They start to strch out and the baby fat goes away.
At least for my kids. Audrey was a super chunky baby and at 7 weighs 45 pounds, see what I mean . I don't think you have to worry.
Um, wow! He is like my nephews they all were as big as some 5 year olds at age 2.
You can, as long as you meet the LATCH weight limit restrictions. After that, you have to use the seatbelt. The weight limits are in your auto manual.
E was in a backless booster by the time he hit 40 pounds so there was no need for the LATCH. He barely gained weight from 3 to 5 but has put on like 7 pounds this year!
We were misguided and turned E around in her Britax Marathon for about a week before I came on here and learned that that was a no-no and switched her back. We did use the latch when she was ff for that time.
Yeah, I wasn't very clear with my post. We have him RF and we are using the LATCH. The seatbelt path in the RF position is a pain to deal with but in the FF position it uses a different path making it easier to install. Given this, when we switch him around to FF we will start using the seatbelt instead of the LATCH.
