Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Starting Meats..

How did you serve Chicken and other meats?  I don't really want puree it, because I wouldn't eat it pureed, lol, so I'm curious as to how you prepare it?  Boil it, bake it...?  Or should I just buy/try the canned chicken (swanson makes it and it's sold in the tuna aisle).

I was making buffalo dip, and that's the chicken I use, and got to thinking that maybe that would be good for DS?  It's already cooked and easy to break apart into tiny pieces?  Is that weird??

TIA!

Re: Starting Meats..

  • if he is feeding himself, I would cook chicken in the crock pot so it is falling apart and I would pull it so it shreds. I would feed it to him that way.

under no circumstances would I ever feed my child canned chicken. I would not ever eat that myself. yuck.

That's what I figured, I eat it only when it's in that dip, but never any other time!

What do you cook the chicken in, chicken broth??  Sorry, over-analyzing everything, as FTM's tend to do :)

  • Yeah, I would probably cook it in broth.  You can either freeze it or mix in some salsa and make some chicken tacos for dinner :)

Here is a really tasty pureed chicken recipe. Really tasty.  https://www.annabelkarmel.com/recipes/babies-6-9-months/chicken-puree-carrots-apple

The rotisserie chickens in my area seem to be really high in sodium, which is why I wouldn't think to feed it to DD. Should I not be concerned about that?

  • I would boil meat. Just use a sautee pan, put enough water to cover at least half way over the meat, cover, then boil till done. It comes out fall apart soft, and easy for DD to chew. I like it because I can be super sure the meat is well done without worrying about it getting dry or tough, which would make it hard for her to eat.

  • With DD, DS has not eaten meat yet, I would bake the chicken in olive oil and then puree it with olive it was really good I almost wanted to eat pureed chicken LOL.

You can always just give the meat a quick rinse. I do that a lot for DS if we're eating something with a little more kick than I think he can handle.
