VBAC

Effacement for VBAC

Looking to VBAC but only 1 cm and about 20% effaced at 40 weeks.  Any successfully VBAC with similar situation?  Have some cramping on and off at night but that has been it...I believe I can only be induced if I am more effaced from what doc says.  Thoughts, advice, comments?

  • How far along are you? How long do you have to go into labor, or will they only induce? Effacement and dilation pre-labor don't really have any bearing on when you'll go into labor.

  • Thanks for your response!  I am 40 weeks 5 days as of today.  I was late with my first and induce 10 days post due date...unsuccessful induction ending in csection.  I am trying for a VBAC with this one, but it is another late bloomer.  Trying to naturally induce, but nothing so far.   They would like to induce in 5 days...I would like to push to wait the 14 days post due date if baby is doing ok (that would be late next week).

Gotcha. Yeah, I would push that you're happy to do non-stress tests instead of inducing (though I would still go for an induction before a RCS). Both of mine were 41+ weeks, waiting at the end is THE worst. Good luck!

  • Thanks!  Waiting is the worst.  I just want some contractions or progress or something!  It is definitely getting cramped in there for the baby.
  • I was 70% effaced and not dilated at all at 40 weeks.  Still VBACed at 41 weeks. (Although I was induced. . . )

  • Hang in there! It's totally normal to go "late." Take plenty of naps since being well rested will help you endure labor.

For natural induction, are there any chiropractors in the area who specialize in serving pregnant women? Long walks every day, EPO, etc

It just takes time, push the induction back as far as you can :)

  • Thanks, I am trying to stay positive.  I started EPO orally 2x a day at 39 weeks, a little nervousness to do it vaginally.  I am going to ask Doc about it this week...maybe it will work a miracle in 5 days.

I just don't understand how I am not effacing or dilating at 40+ weeks!  So frustrating...  Thanks for your support!
