Pregnant after 35

::Constipated::

Who's with me?!? Ugh, and I guess that's why I feel bloated and gassy too.  It made me lose my appetite last night and I just picked at my dinner.  Anyone try a safe solution? I'm already drinking water like a fish and eat my share of fruits/veggies daily.

Re: ::Constipated::

  • Colace on the regular. I took a few day course of miralax to jump start things at the beginning of 2nd Tri.

  • You can mix prune juice with cranberry or grape juice to improve the flavor.  And there's colace like PP's mentioned.

  • Ah, it's tough, isn't it? I feel your pain. Our digestive process is totally different now.

    For me constipation kicked into high gear in 2nd tri. At the same time I started getting headaches and the exhaustion from 1st tri has never gone away. So, I added a daily cup of coffee back into my routine and that helped with all three issues.

  • Fiber One is your friend.  Eat one Fiber One bar every day and you will be fine. They will give you gas at first because your body won't be used to eating that much fiber.  But after a few days you will no longer feel gassy from them.  The Oats and Chocolate are yummy.

  • I already ate a TON of fiber in my diet, so I had to take Colace and eat lots of mango and pineapple. But what works really well, too? Decaf coffee. Boom! Works in a matter of under an hour, for me.

    Try a number of things and see what works! Everyone is different, but constipation stinks no matter who you are... Hang in there.

  • I have severe constipation. I was already taking stool softeners and they were doing nothing. I was eating tons of fruits, veggies and whole grains and drinking at least a gallon of water a day. Nothing. I added benefiber to my coffee in the morning and my water at night. Nothing. My doctor said to take Miralax daily and 5-6 stool softeners a day. It finally worked after a week. I stopped taking the Miralax and it happened again so I'm going to continue taking it with the colace. Its brutal.

  • The only suggestion I can add is a good brisk walk every day. I am routinely out for an hour or more with my dogs every morning and knock on wood, I have had no constipation at all.

    Ditto. And the cereals are good too. I particularly like the raisin bran.

    TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
