Birthday party favors

Can't believe my lo is almost ONE! Whoah time flys...anyway we are having her birthday party here at home hafl family half friends 20 people 100% coming but 31 were invited. I'm torn on whether to do party favors. Is that bad if you don't? Do you just give the favors to kids at the party? There will be a 10 & 11 month old (what in the world do you give as a favor at this age) most of what I see are cookies, candies etc...Then my little sister and cousins are both 13 and one is 3 (allgirls). There might be a 10 year old boy but not certin on that. Oh and one 2 year old boy. So as you can see the ages are all over the place. I'd rather not have to get a bunch of different things. Any ideas or tips would be great apprieciated! WWYD

Re: Birthday party favors

  • We're doing an "Oh the Places She'll Go" party with a world travel theme (thank you whoever posted that list of ideas a while back!!!) so we're giving globe beach balls.  We are only going to be giving favors to the kids, though.  I figure adults can take extra cupcakes.  They'll all understand!

  • We aren't having more than a couple kids at our party and have never really understood favors anyway.

I'm doing a bowl of M&Ms in the colors of our theme with some baggies next to it with a sign that says something like "Thanks for coming! Please take some M&M's to enjoy now and later!" Then they can be snacks during the party (we are boiling maple syrup after her party so not just a 1st b-day party) or for the road as most our friends are traveling a couple hours.

I'm glad I posted. It reminded me I need to pick up some M&Ms today while the Valentine ones are still around and my coupon is still good. I need the pink ones.

  • I usually do goodie bags for the kids but no favors for adults.

We did a farm theme for my oldest's first bday and the kids invited were a little under a year old.  I found cute plastic piggy toddler plates at Dollar Tree and also gave them a cow sippy cup.  I washed them ahead of time so they could use them at the party.  The couple older kids, around 7-12 age group I gave Cow Tails candy.

For his 2nd bday, Cars theme, I found the waterproof scrub-bubble books (good for bath time and safe for babies to chew on) magic washcloths (the kind that are vacuum sealed and expand in water) crayons, and mini bubbles all at Dollar Tree.  They also got a pack of Cars fruit snacks (I love when Betty Crocker has fruit snacks to match my theme!) and a Cars sticker.  I think I gave the older ones each a $1 McDonald's coupons that you can buy in books of 5.

3rd Bday was Thomas and the kids are all 2.5-3 yo now so they got a plastic Thomas cup (Walmart has lots of character cups for $1 in their party section), a Thomas sticker, a whistle, a pack of Thomas fruit snacks, a cheap pack of crayons that I personalized, and a coloring book I made of free coloring pages from the Thomas website.  Only one of the older ones came this year, and she still likes to color so she took a pack of crayons with her McD's coupon.

Not real sure what I'm doing for the sock monkey party in March.  I saw a "make your own sock monkey puppet" (with paper bags) station on Pinterest, so maybe I'll set that up and their puppet will be their favor.
