Change in eating habits?

So my 10 week old is doing one less feeding a day. Feeds for about five minutes and then latches on and off, crying.  Then she's happy and fine.  Could she simply just be less hungry? It worries me.  I mentioned it to the doctor the other day and she said maybe she' just gassy and it was okay to miss a feeding.  But she missed last night's feeding, fed her at 2am, and then wasn't hungry when I tried this morning at 7:30am.  I think I'm overblowing this!

Re: Change in eating habits?

  • Lately K hasn't been wanting to eat first thing in the morning. Before when we were up every 34 hours at night, she wanted to eat each time she woke up. Now that she's STTN, she doesn't want to eat until after being up for an hour or so. If she's still making wet diapers and seems happy, I wouldn't worry too much.

  • Thank you for responding.  Forgive my ignorance...what does STTN mean?
  • I am asuming you are breastfeeding. She is probably getting more efficient at eating also, so she may be getting in all the milk she needs in less time. STTN = sleeping through the night. Be happy she dropped a night feeding, she may want to sleep through the night! Like PP said, as long as she has enough wet diapers during the day there is nothing to worry about. My LO sleeps 9p-6a eats for 10 minutes then goes back to sleep until 9a, then eats every 2 hours while awake during the day. Just go with whatever makes her happy Smile

  • Dropping a feeding is totally fine.

But if she's fussy at the breast - check her cheeks and gums for thrush, just to be careful.  If it's not that it could just be a phase or gas though.

  • Hallie is fussy at the breast sometimes. She's a lazy/impatient eater. Basically she nurses to letdown. Then when it starts to slow down and she has to really start working again she starts fussing until I switch sides.
