Anyone give birth at TMC? Or at Mercy using TMC midwives? Please share your experience :-) TIA!
FYI - I used an OB at West Penn for DD's birth and the experience was not what I hoped for. This time, I want to use a midwife but I want to give birth at a hospital (I have AFLAC and I get paid an extra $1000 if I deliver at a hospital, not a birth center).
Re: The Midwife Center
My first birth was at Mercy with an OB and my second was at The Midwife Center. The experiences were worlds apart! Prenatally, I felt much more at home at TMC and loved the care I received from the midwives throughout my pregnancy. I never felt rushed and I felt like they actually cared about me as a person, not just for me as a patient. My pregnancy was uncomplicated and my delivery there was incredibly smooth. You also get a lot more individual attention when delivering at the center because you are often the only one there in labor. That being said, I have heard that even if you deliver with them at Mercy, it's quite a different experience than being there with an OB. Much more hands off as far as unnecessary interventions go.
I have had several clients with the Midwives at Magee and they have all been great experiences so far. They are definitely more willing to work with mothers, as far as options go, but being at Magee, they can also be very busy. So, how much time they spend with you does depend on how many other laboring women are on the floor that night. So far, I feel that all of my clients there have received wonderful care and the midwives have spent a good deal of time in the room, despite having other patients.
Hope that helps!
