Anyone else only getting 45 minute naps

No matter what I do all I get is 45 mins out of him. He used to take one good one in the morning in the swing for 1.5 to 2 hours but I can't even get him to do that anymore.

I know their sleep cycles are that long but he needs to get more sleep than that each time. He just keeps getting more and more overtired as the day goes on but never pushes past that 45 minutes. Anyone else,

Re: Anyone else only getting 45 minute naps

  • This has been happening to me lately. When he wakes up I try to soothe him and see if he'll go back to sleep if I give him his paci, rock him or put him in his swing. If this doesn't work then I just assume he isn't tired and we'll try again next nap.

  • This has been our life for the past month..and it sucks!!  It means I put C down for a nap four or five times a day, to try and stay ahead of her getting overtired.  It's very draining, I feel like I spend most of my days just getting her to nap.  Uggh I hope she grows out of it soon!
  • Gah I'll just keep trying I guess! I remember DS1 did this and didn't stop til we sleep trained. I forget all the things you have to work through with babies!

  • I would love 45 min naps! I, too, wish I could figure out how to get her to have better naps without being held! Ah well, someday I will fondly remember holding her while she slept... but for now... sigh.

  • Me---Vincent only sleeps 30-45 min for a nap unless he is sleeping on my chest.

It's been like this for a few weeks now. I assume this is his norm.

I was getting frustrated with it and b&m to DH about it. He made me see that it's not something I need to complain about because Zane sleeps through the night. My LO literally sleeps from (between) 7-9pm to 7-9am.. Between 9-12 hours a night!!!! And as much as I hate to say it, DH is right. I would like to get stuff done during the day, but I try to clean up right after I make the mess, so it's not there and have to worry about it later. LO also, only tends to fall asleep on my for his daily nap. once I put him down he is awake. I may have to start putting him in his pack'n'play to sleep or in his bassinet instead of his swing.

  • These kids will make you contradict yourself in a second! We do an eat, play, sleep routine so I suspected it was just a hunger issue. He pretty much still eats every 2 hours during the day. He is up for about an hour, then I get him ready for nap. After he has been sleeping for 45, it's pretty close to time to eat again which is why he ws waking up I think. So this time I just fed him, changed him and started the nap routine again. He's been sleeping in his crib for about an hour and 45 minutes. I guess I need a new routine but I will take it!

  • Us too!

B has been taking 45min naps since very early on. Maybe once per day he will take an hour, but it's usually 45min on the dot.

The one nice thing I will say is that it makes planning a lot easier. We typically know exactly when he will wake up if we have to go somewhere or do something.

  • I get 15 minute naps every 2 hours or so. Usually she sleeps a total of an hour to hour and a half throughout the day.

  • H is the same way.  He doesn't seem overtired though, so I don't worry about it.  Although, the idea of putting him down drowsy but awake makes me laugh, laugh, laugh.  He will sometimes sleep longer if held.  If he's planning on a long nap, he'll often do a mini cluster feed to tank up.
