I have no idea what I want from this post, so please feel free to tell me your story or experience. (I will say, I really like my OB, his office, his partners and his staff. I went to an imaging facility that they use as a referral.)
I had my NT screening today. I am supposed to be 13 weeks and like 5 days. (Due August 7 if anyone wants to do the actual math.) This was based on the initial ultrasound at 7 weeks. We could not use the date of my LMP because I was postpartum. My last and only MP since giving birth to DD in March was Sept 1st... That is not helpful...
Today, the tech did her screening and was pretty terse, saying the doctor would address the findings with me. My husband and I just kind of watched, and over and over again when she took a measurement, the returning result showed me being between 14 weeks 5 days and 15 weeks. (Due date of July 29.)
When the doctor who reviews the images came in she said, "We can't tell you anything. As far as we call tell, you are too far along. Everything looks good as far as limbs and stuff but we can't complete the NT portion of your screen. I'll forward these along to your doctor."
So... I guess I am like 9 days earlier than my OB thought? Or the baby is just measuring ahead? I'm going to contact my doctor tomorrow. I realize being a little further along is not even remotely a big deal... except I didn't get this test. I wasn't to concerned about it anyway, but it does affect some things, like which due date will they chose to use for overdue stuff, like inducing if you go over 14 days? And isn't the measurement my OB took at 7 weeks more accurate than the one now?
I realize that this may sound like I am stressed out by I assure you, I'm not, like at all, just kind of confused? Wondering if this happens frequently?
Re: NT scan with weird outcome (long... kinda pointless)
I don't think this would be enough to change your DD, though.
I am also due Aug 7th.
My understanding is that early U/S for dating are pretty accurate.
We had the NT scan on Friday (2/1). They told us the results that day (neck measured normal). We are waiting on the results of the blood work.
I asked the U/S tech why they can't do it after 14 weeks and she told me that they can, but that the results don't mean as much (because the thickness of the neck evens out).
So I would think that if you are too far along, then the baby would have measured "normal".
I would call your OB and demand results. To not get some results would be very upsetting to me.
If the result is that the baby measured normal because you are too far along, then so be it, but they need to tell you something.
When you've been married this long, you need a ticker to remind you.

Yes. Sorry. Apparently, there is a very small window in which they can do this particular scan and the baby was too big or too far along to be interpreted within the particular statics they use.
I should have mentioned this. Sorry, the post just seemed super long and I was trying to keep it short.
This is probably not helpful at all but my MW told me the other day that from my ultrasound in the hospital that I am due the 13th by the babies measurments, but by my placenta I am actually measuring the 17th but that baby is the most accurate measurement. So if that is the same thing for your OB then you are probably goin to be due in July.
I hope that you can figure out why they couldn't give you an answer as to why your NT scan couldn't be complete.
Hopefully your doctor can give you some better information. As you know, the NT has to be done while the baby is a certain size.
The only info I can offer it that I had a dating u/s at 7 weeks because I also didn't have a LMP date because of miscarriage. At my NT scan the baby was measuring 5 days ahead (but still within the range to do the NT scan). My doctor said they keep my initial due date based on the 7 week ultrasound because it is more accurate for dating. Apparently dating ultrasounds are done at 7-8 weeks?
The fact that my baby was measuring ahead at 12 weeks is just considered "the baby is measuring ahead" ie. bigger than the average 12 week fetus.
As well, I charted my ovulation and the 7 week ultrasound was one day off of what my chart told me for my due date.
Good luck!
Thank you, this was the most helpful comment.
I had something similar but with a different outcome.
I went in at 7 weeks and measured 7 weeks with a due date of August 8th. We scheduled my NT scan and went down the road.
When I was 11 weeks, I had some spotting and went in for an impromptu u/s to make sure everything was okay. My baby was measuring 12 weeks. My doctor said that the original dating was the most accurate and that they would keep my original due date of August 8th and not change it to August 2nd. He said that babies grow at different rates, which makes early dating more accurate.
They then had to reschedule my NT scan to a week earlier to "catch" the window to see the nuchal translucency which is how they can predict Downs. I was just lucky? that I had to go in to check my babies health (not sure if lucky is the right word) or I would have been outside the window like you.
So according to my doctor. You would keep your original due date and, sadly, your baby grew fast and prevented you from doing the u/s part of your NT scan.
I was just as confused as you at first, until I grilled my doctor. I didn't know how far along I was any more. Hope this clears things up.
