August 2013 Moms

You have to be kidding me!

It has started already! One of my coworkers said to me today, "are you sure sure due in August? And there's only one in there??" I almost lost it! Yes I'm bigger than I wish I was and when I was pregnant with DD I was big early too.... But come on!! WHY do people think it is ok to comment on a woman's body just because she's pregnant? I will never understand this.  Sigh.

Re: You have to be kidding me!

  • Yes, I keep getting comments like, "how far along are you?!" "Wow, you really popped this time!".

Hang in there, people are stupid and don't realize they're being rude.

  • I have had 2 people tell me already that I am big for how far along I am. Sigh!

  • Omg so rude! I would have lost it on her... And then blamed the pregnancy hormones for being so nasty lol!
  • Ugh I feel your pain. I was already a little over weight before I got pregnant so now that I'm starting to show my belly is a tad larger than most women at 12 weeks and I got the "are you sure it's not twins?!?" It sucks lol

I find it helps to pretend you're in on the joke. It catches people off guard, and it can sometimes gently tell people that they're being rude.

I hide in the house most days. But if someone would comment on my size, I'd say something like "Actually I'm trying to beat out the Octo-mom, and there's actually ten in there! I look pretty good for carrying 10!" or something equally ridiculous.

I like your Octo-mom idea!! This whole comment thing is one reason (not the most important) that I'm nervous to start telling people. My self esteem does NOT need the rude comments.  I wish I had the guts to respond with "Well when are YOU due?" Or something like that. haha I only say those comments in my head. But I CAN blame it on hormones.... ;)

  • I've I always liked the rule that no matter how big a woman is it is NEVER appropriate to ask if she is pregnant. I think this goes for "how far along are you". I've already had a co-worker, who I have not told I am pregnant make a rude comment behind my back saying that I am trying to hide my belly by wearing a jacket. HELLO!, it's winter and I am not even showing yet!!

  • I do at least have the excuse that I am carrying twins. But, it is still embarassing for me right now. I wear my jacket at work for most of the day. I'm looking forward to when I look obvious pregnant and not just fat. Sadly, I also have a coworker who sits near me and is 4weeks ahead with a singleton. She was in much better prepregnancy shape than I was. It'll be interesting to see how much bigger I get. Oh well... I need to learn to embrace it!! I've been blessed with twins! :)
  • I am getting the opposite. When I tell people I am pregnant I get "Really?? You aren't showing at all" it stresses me out.

  • Yes, so annoying! I've got a short torso, so there was no where for my bump to go but out. I started showing a lot sooner than I expected, especially since I'm a FTM. It doesn't help that my mom is convinced that I'm carrying multiples. I've shown her the ultrasounds, there's just one. So yesterday after my appointment I told her we didn't get an ultrasound but that my OB used the doppler to listen to the heartbeat. She asked "How many heartbeats?" (insert eye roll here) So I responded "Two." She started freaking out and I was like "Yeah, we heard mine and then the baby's; both sounded great." ;) Maybe she'll believe me that there's just one now!

  • I had someone tell me I looked cute today with my bump starting to show.  I honestly didn't realize it was showing in the outfit I wore today.  I know she was saying it in a nice way, but it just doesn't come off like a compliment when you are still trying to get used to your new body.

  • I'm pregnant with my first and someone just said to me oh you got the pregnancy wattle already?! Like seriously nothing like wanting to scream yes I always had a bigger behind but nothing like someone to say a smart comment when your already feel blah!
