Success after IF

2nd beta...mixed feelings

So my level on Friday am was 244 (14dpiui) and today (17dpiui) was 485. The nurse said it was fine and scheduled me for my first ultrasound on the 22nd and said I didn't need my levels checked anymore because it "doubled which is what we wanted to see." I was hoping for a little higher of a number. Should I be concerned at all because its not any higher? Thoughts anyone?

Re: 2nd beta...mixed feelings

  • My second beta doubled slower than 48 hours, so my clinic asked me to come in for a third beta. I am glad I did as it helped with my anxiety during the next 2ww till ultrasound. It is certainly a reasonable thing to want to do in your case.

  • As long as they double within 72 hours (you're right around 72), they are considered normal.  Also, you are above average for your dpo if you look at the averages reported on betabase (but don't get worked up about multiples or anything --- mine were always higher than the average for triplets, and I never had more than one baby in there -- it is affected by when the embie implated, which can be anywhere from 5-10 dpo): https://www.betabase.info/showBasicChart.php?type=Single

  • I'm semi-obsessed with doubling betas so I would be asking for another draw to see if the doubling time was getting shorter but like I said, I'm obsessed.  Like someone else said, up to 72 hours to double is considered normal and yours did that.  And, in the end, I've discovered that betas really mean nothing except that you are pregnant.  I've had great betas and miscarried while other women had low, and nearly non-doubling betas and they had live babies.

I'll be hoping your ultrasound goes great.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
