So I know we still have at least 6 months until our LOs turn 2, but is anyone thinking of party themes yet? Will you downsize from the 1st birthday bash or keep the guestlist the same size? Any over the top ideas or dream parties ya want to share?
Pinterest has me OBSESSED with DD's birthday at the moment. We are going cowgirl/rodeo theme. We are going to rent the preschool where I work as I get the building and outdoor space for $50. I think we might bring in a pony and/or petting zoo as well. We are cutting our guestlist a lot but it is still pretty big. We are cutting out all the distant family we had the first time around since we pretty much hosted a family reunion/birthday party. This time we are inviting more friends with kids.
Re: 2nd Birthdays
Birthdays in this fam are always a low-key affair. There were a good number of people at both girls' 1st birthday parties, but I'm not a fan of hobnobbing. I'm an introverted sort and I tend to hide behind tasks like re-stocking cups and making sure there is enough spinach dip instead of chatting up the guests.
I'm just going to do some homemade goodies, invite our closest family and friends - probably no other toddlers, honestly, since I don't know anyone with kids DD2's age. She'll be happy, though, as she'll be surrounded by familiar faces.
As for a theme...eh, we'll probably do a color scheme, maybe stick with a pattern on the tablecloth and flatware, and leave it at that.
// I love you too. //
I have been thinking about it and then I tell myself no my baby will be 2 :'(
We have themes we are discussing but waiting for it to be a little closer.
We will invite the same people family and friends
I am leaning towards cowgirl as well. Because we are in a different province we will just invite the family that is here. My mom and dad want to fly us bact to Toronto before DD is 2 because she flies free. So I might just do a small family birthday for her there with them.
Money is kinda thight so there will be a lot of DYI and dollar store decorations.
I might take the cousins to a farm close to us that has a bouncy castle room and hay wagon rides. but it will just be the 5 kids.
We have so many friends with kids we may just do something where there is less family, more fun for the kids. Josh really enjoys the indoor playground and some do private parties!! I think we are leanin towards doing that.
For a theme, not decided yet...he is really into trains lately so if that keeps up.maybe trains.
I haven't thought about it yet. I have met exactly two people in my new town, not including the staff at the True Value Hardware up the street who should all know me by now since I've made a million visits there.
We don't have family anywhere close by, though they are closer than with his first bday. I'm assuming that I will have made some friends by then, and that's who will be there.
Theme....I don't know. We did a sports theme last time, and that was fun. We have a really great covered patio, so we'll probably just have it at home.
Birthdays are family affairs.
We have the ILs, my family and the 4 of us. That makes the guest list the same as it was for his first birthday.
We did the big bash for Hank's 1st Birthday, and it didn't feel right. It was loud, chaotic and nobody really got to hang out because there were so many kids being ushered in and out and shhhh-ed and being disciplined. It just isn't what I want for birthdays.
The boys don't really have "friends" yet. I mean, Hank's got people he likes to play with and we see them often enough (as in everyday and once or twice per week) that having a birthday party with them isn't really anything special. The kids come over weekly and we do special things like baking and playing games and coloringpainting. A party would be the same-ish, so there's really no reason to have one for us.
As they enter school, and make real friends that aren't forced by geography or the fact that I'm watching a kid for daycare, we'll have birthday parties that are primarily friends, and save the small family gatherings for other times during the year.
Last year, we had her party at the splash park and there was a total of maybe 12 adults and 7 kiddos there.
This year, we'll probably host at home since, you know, we'll have an actual yard for the kids to play in
No big plans though. Kiddie pool, water balloons, that sort of thing.
I actually just started thinking about her birthday last week. I think we may do pink polka dot "theme". We will most likely only invite family.
