Hi everyone, I'm fairly new here, but hope it's okay to ask a question. I just started Letrozole (generic for Femara) this cycle. I go in Wednesday for the U/S and will hopefully have some plump little follies abrewin'. I'm curious what type of success you guys may have had with Letrozole/Femara, in terms of the number and size of follicles. I don't have a tube on the right side, so I am hoping I am able to ovulate on both sides each month to increase my chances. I'm not sure what to expect.
Also, did you do trigger shots, and if so, did you do them yourself at home? I am a little intimidated about that whole process....
Any info/thoughts/advice you can provide will be much appreciated!

Re: Femara/Letrozole and trigger shot ?s
"Just keep swimming, just keep swimming..."
I've taken Letrozole two times so far.
The first time my left side had a tiny irrelevant follicle in it. I can't remember whether it was at a 11 or a 14. My right side had 3 follicles in it. 1 was irrelevant but the other 2 were at a 19 and a 22. I didn't trigger that cycle.
This current cycle my left ovary contributed absolutely nothing to the group and my right ovary did all of the work. I had one 22ish follicle and two others in my right ovary were only around 12ish. I triggered that night with a shot of Ovidrel. At home. Thank goodness my Mom was in town and she is an RN. I had her do it for me. This month I'll have to do it to myself though. It's not a huge needle so I know I can handle it, I think it's just mentally making yourself do it.
I had my monitoring appt and trigger on a Monday, IUI on Wednesday morning first thing.

Hi. I have been on femara many times. I got pregnant with DD on my first cycle of femara.
My follicle sizes have been anywhere from 16-22. My RE's office considers anything over 16 mature.
I used to bring my trigger shot to my scanning appointment and let the nurse trigger for me. Now that I have been on injectibles I always do it at home now since DH and I are pros now.
One tip, I always have sex the night before my scan to check for mature follicles. Sperm lives for up to 72 hours, better chances IMO.
Good Luck!

Thanks, Lauren. Ugh, my husband is already in bed asleep (he gets up at 4:45am!), so tonight is out. But good thought for next time. We are on the every 48 hours schedule, and last night was BD night (sorry, TMI?). Anyways.... I saw that were TTC for 2+ years and got pregnant on your first Letrozole cycle. That is our situation exactly; I hope that we luck out with our first cycle like you did. And your daughter is adorable (as are all of the kiddos pictured on this thread)!

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and hubby and I have been TTC for 27 months now. We started seeing a fertility specialist in August. We went through all the testing and were diagnosed with unexplained infertility, so he gave us a prescription for 6 months worth of Letrozole and sent us on our way. Just said to let him know how it goes. Is this normal? I've been seeing a lot of posts regarding Letrozole and most women are monitored while on it, having ultrasounds each cycle to measure the follicles. He never mentioned any of this to us. Is this something we should be requesting to have done? So far we've gone through 2 unsuccesful cycles with the letrozole and I will be starting the third cycle on it tomorrow.
Thanks in advance!
I am on my first round of Femara after no success with Clomid. Went in yesterday for ultrasound and had two good ones. Both around 19mm. Much bigger than I ever had with Clomid! I am also using the trigger shot. I haven't had any issues with either as far as side effects. Hopefully Femara does the job! Will let you know in a few weeks!
