I posted this question on the baby gear board but didnt get many good replies. So here I go again.
- What will your newborn infant sleep in for the night ?
A )Bassinet
Rocker/Swing C) Playard with Napper D) Crib
- Which Brand would you recommend?
- Have you bought it/used it ?
TIA!
I am in an apartment where space matters so dont want to have bassinet and playard and crib. Currently, I am leaning towards one of these.

Re: What will your newborn sleep in ? Recommendation ?
I plan on going right to the crib, but I realize that may be ambitious. I have an apartment and the baby room is right next to ours, so I don't think getting up will be a huge deal, but what do I know? haha. We are also getting a rock n play from a friend and that will be my back up if I feel I need/want the baby next to our bed for a while. Graco and Divinci have good low price cribs, but since all cribs have to meet safety standards, you should be OK with any crib you pick.
Baby bargains was a great book with brand recommendations for every category. They actually do NOT recommend the newborn napper that comes with the pack n play b/c it's rather cushion-y and too much cushion can be a cause of SIDS.
I am also getting the basic pack n play, which could be an option next to the bed too, b/c of the bassinet feature. However, I'm more getting this to use in our yard and also to trips to our parents houses. I don't really "plan" on having this set up in our apartment, but even the best laid plans...
We'll be doing the arms reach co-sleeper sleigh bed again. I LOVED it and so did DS. We started off with the crib but it took up so much space and I HATED getting up to nurse him. I was an evil witch during the day from lack of sleep so hubby bought the cosleeper. It was heaven being able to change and nurse him without getting out of bed.
We went with an old fashioned bassinet in our room. Actually we bed shared for 8 full weeks, and then did a mix of bassinet and bed sharing another 3ish weeks, then transitioned to crib.
This time we're in a new house and the baby will most likely start in its crib. But we'll see. I might end up doing a mix of bedsharing and bassinet again.
The bassinet was mine from when I was a baby. We borroed a Rock-N-Play but DS hated it.
Well, we had a bassinet and a crib. But DD ended up sleeping in our bed. It wasn't too bad. It was summer so we just used a light weight blanket and kept it waist-high for DH and myself, keeping DD bare. That said, I am planning on getting an Arm's Reach co-sleeper this time around because I like the idea of baby having its own space, but still being close for nursing, calming, etc.
My plan with DD had been the bassinet and then transition to the crib after a few months...but the only way any of us got any sleep was with her in bed with us for the first year.

1. Co-Sleeper by Arm's Reach- that's the way to go, especially if you nurse. If your bed doesn't really accomodate it or you don't want that route, bassinet/crib are good options too, but cribs do last longer than the 6months a bassinet will give you.
2. No recs here, really, except Dream Baby furniture- totally totally worth it for the crib and glider.
3. We are using a hand-me-down bassinet that worked great with DS. We also have a crib. We have used both.
FWIW, DH just chimed in that he loves Dream Baby and that unlike other places, you're not paying for a name, you're paying for high quality (he has carpentry background and he was impressed with their stuff).
DD went straight into a crib in her nursery from day 1. The nursery was right across from our bedroom and I didn't find it a big deal to go in to nurse her throughout the night. We actually all slept better than the few times she slept with us so it wa the right choice for us. We plan on doing the same with this one. As far as brand of crib, we went with Babi Italia and will be re-using the same crib. I second pp recommendation of the Baby Bargains book.
I know a lot of people use pack n plays for overnight sleeping, but I'm pretty sure it states right in the manual that they are not to be used for this purpose. It's up to you to decide whether you're comfortable going against that recommendation or not.

DD slept in her crib in her nursery from day 1. She never has slept in our room for an entire overnight (now that she's older if she is up at 5 on a saturday, we put her in bed with us and sleep until 8.).
We have a davinci crib, in espresso. The new baby will get that crib and DD will get a new one. I love our crib it was easy to put together, and easy to lower as DD grew.
