Pram/Bassinets - worth it?

Does anyone have the compact pram attachments for their BJCM or the bassinets for any type of stroller?  Is it worth it?  How do you use it?  How often do you use it?

Could it be used as a travel bassinet when going to visit family or in a hotel?  Does it fold up to fit in the travel bag with the stroller?

Lots of questions!

Re: Pram/Bassinets - worth it?

  • The bassinet came with my uppa baby vista, and I used it a few times, but I would not have bought it if I had to purchase it seperately.  The carseat adapter was way more useful.

DD hated lying flat so she would not have slept in it (unless we were constantly in motion).  The RNP is great for travel and folds up compactly.

  • We have the Uppa Vista and use the bassinet quite a bit. We use it mostly on walks around the neighborhood but we also use it at our house or parents house for my DD to sleep in. It does fold up and comes with a bag for storage. I do not know if it would fit in a stroller storage bag because we do not have one.

We love the bassinet but I think it depends on your LO and your lifestyle. I have friends who never ended up using their bassinet.

This. We used ours a ton out and about AND in the house. I don't know the whole credibility but I read somewhere that bucket carseats put baby at an angle that is safest for crashes, not necessarily breathing. With an underweight baby I preferred her to be out of the carseat when possible. We have the uppa stroller bag and I couldn't figure out how to make it fit, but you can always carry it on the plane if you need.

  • We also have the UBV and my son slept in the bassinet in our room for the first three months. Loved having it and will use it again with our next baby.

This! DS has reflux and was very uncomfortable in the baby bucket. We would never have taken walks in the stroller had we not had the basinette. We also used it a few times for sleeping on the road. It worked really well until DS became too big for it.

There is a credible study. It's furthering the carseats are not cribs campaign here and the study is being done by the University of Calgary in conjunction with foothills Medicals Centre. I was interviewed because of the dks. I didn't use an infant seat until S, I did convertibles and prams/bassinets/flat lying strollers. My infant seat pretty much stayed in the car. It's what worked for us.
  • We have a bugaboo chameleon and used the bassinet a ton during the first 6 months. We mostly used the bassinet on walks around the neighborhood and then we could just transport the baby into the house if she was already sleeping without waking her. We also used it when traveling. The bugaboo's bassinet is actually the seat just transformed into a bassinet at first so you don't have to buy a separate bassinet. We are currently looking at the BJCS and I don't know how we can live without a bassinet for our new LO. I would hate for the only option for a newborn to be riding in the carseat, that just doesnt seem super comfortable.

This is the very reason we use the bassinet so much. We keep our infant car seat in the car for the most part. My DD does not sleep in the car seat unless she falls asleep in the car and then we take her out as soon as we can.  The bassinet really comes in handy as another option instead of the car seat.

  • I'm glad we had it. DS1 only used it on the stroller or while visiting family to sleep in. However, DS2 hated the RNP and slept in the stroller bassinet attachment every night for almost 2mo until I moved him to his room. You just don't know what your kid will like to sleep in.

As for the using it on the stroller. DS1 was a winter baby so we didn't get a ton of use out of it for walks. But DS2 was born in Sept so we used it a lot in the fall to take walks. I walked every day to help with the baby weight before I was cleared to workout.

Yes, here we're told to not keep a baby in the car seat for more than 2 hours at a time and one hour at least out. Our infant seat hardly ever left the car. We did use the bassinet feature of our Frog but not much because I realised that I didn't like using a stroller and wore her 99% of the time instead.

  • For the reasons mentioned above, I am planning to use a bassinet/pram.

  • We have the large baby jogger bassinet on our city mini but only because I found it on Craig's list for 40 not 150. I really like it but would not pay full price as I think baby will only fit in it for a month or 2 more. I can tell dd is much more comfortable in it than her car seat and I like that she is sleeping flat. It is pretty big and does not fold. You could set it up as a sleep space but I wouldn't overnight as it lacks air circulation. I think it is fine for naps. Overall I love it for the price I paid but would not recommend paying full price!
