Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Spitting up??

My daughter is 5 1/2 months but I'm positing in here because I have a teething question. My daughter never, ever spits up. Since birth I would say maybe 7 times in 5 months has she spit up and even then it's hardly anything. Today she has spit up 7 times! I called my doc and he suggested it could be teething. He has been teethinh but nothing has broke brought yet. She's not sick and doesn't have a fever. Has anyone seen an increase in spit up when a baby is teething ?

Re: Spitting up??

  • I've never heard of spitting up related to teething.  My LO has 7 teeth already and spitting up was never part of what he went through.

If it's just today, I would wonder if it's something about what she's eating.  If you BF, did you eat something that may be making her sick?  I know a couple of weeks ago I had a gyro and it really upset my LO's stomach the next day.  If you FF, has there been a change in the formula you use?  That would be first go-to assumption is that it's stomach/food related.

  • I don't really have any help / advice to give but I noticed the same thing with my LO.

We used to spit up a lot but for the past 2 months or so we very rarely did. But now all of a sudden we're spitting up after each bottle. I thought teething too! He's got the rosy cheeks, small but present diaper rash and putting things in his mouth more often.  So possibly the spit up does go along with teething! We still have zero teeth but maybe soon!...Who knows.

  • We also saw an uptick in spitting up around this age. Asked the pediatrician and they said it was possibly correlated to LO sitting up on their own more and using their ab muscles more. It disappeared after a few weeks, we haven't seen it since (even though more teeth have come in).
