Not Pregnant ~ Pregnancy Announcement Ideas

Hello,

I am recently married (about 5 months), but NOT currently pregnant.  I am looking for cute and unique announcement ideas for when I am expecting so I'm prepared and am not in a state of overwhelming joy and can't come up with ideas :)

How did you tell your Husband when you found out?

How did you tell your Friends and Family?

Thanks for any suggestions! :)

Re: Not Pregnant ~ Pregnancy Announcement Ideas

  • We announced right around Halloween... so we took DH's parents a pumpkin trick or treat thing filled with baby bottles, diapers, etc. Then that night we went trick or treating and I wore a shirt with a baby on the belly. It was pretty fun to watch as people figured it out.

  • My husband, I found out on Mother's day and just told him.  He knew I was testing and would have asked anyway.

Friends actually knew before my family that we were trying.  It's a little hard to hide the fact that you can't have a drink.

Family, we told his parents.  My mom I told her I found something she could get us for christmas and gave her a print out of a crib.  My middle sister I asked if I could borrow her maternity clothes (we're the same size roughly).

I don't really like the whole gift thing.  But if we have number two I'll probably do a picture of our daughter in a Big Sister shirt.

  • We are not TTC yet, but when the time comes and I get pregnant, I plan on giving DH this onesie

  • MH was cooking dinner and I just called him into the bathroom.

We did some different things for different people.  My mom was complaining about how everything in her life was sucking (long story) and we asked if a new grandchild would make her feel better.  My brother and sister-in-law made a comment about how they couldn't wait to share their old baby things with us and we said you don't have to wait long (we were planning on telling them that day).  We told my BIL that we were having a hard time figuring out what to get him for his birthday and thought he might enjoy a niece or nephew (we're due 1 week after his bday).  We told a good friend that we had some bad news--we wouldn't be able to attend an event the first week of June because it wouldn't do to bring a baby less than a month old.  My grandmother was complaining that my uncle (her son-in-law) would not come to her funeral (family drama-long story) so I told her that I hoped she was joking about that but in all seriousness if she died in the next 9 months I would not be going to her funeral (in my religion, pregnant women are not allowed to go to funerals or cemeteries).  She knew exactly what I meant and was beyond thrilled--possibly to the point that it helped her survive a severe heart attack a week later.  We told my aunt and uncle that next year their granddaughter would no longer be the youngest in the family.  My other aunt has a standing invitation for a holiday meal and we told her next year we were wondering if we could get an invitation for 3 rather than for 2.  We told my grandfather that he needed to plan a trip to our area from Florida in May or June instead of in March.  We wrote a note to a friend saying "Dear Uncle M, I can't wait to meet you in May!" We have friends who we only see twice a year and we haven't told them anything yet.  We are going to see them the beginning of March and think it will be funny to just show up 7 months pregnant without having said a word.

We have not done a FB announcement at all yet.  One thing we are considering doing is just posting a random sonogram picture and not saying anything.  Depending on when you announce and when the baby is due will make a difference in how you tell people.

Good luck with TTC, but don't obsess over the details like this right now.  You'll come up with plenty of ideas when the time comes.

  • When I found out I was pregnant I was in so much shock that I ran into the bathroom where he was showering and stuck the test into the bathtub with him. Looking back I wish I had done something cute.

I told my friends and family by taking a picture of DH and I with the "pregnant" test. I invited them all out to dinner and gave them each a gift to open at the same time. It was amazing to watch them all burst into tears and smiles!

  • People LOVE getting used peesticks, just a heads up.  I mean, like...pee on it, wrap it and hand it over to them.  Let them watch the lines pop up.  That's awesome.  They can feel the warmth of your love right there in the palm of their hand.

I mean, that's been my experience anyways.

OR you can send them on extravagant scavenger hunts. Like hide the letters that spell out "We are expecting a baby on (date)!!!" around town, making people do Amazing Race type stunts to get the clues to the next place.  That'd be a big hit.

    Good luck! {squee!}

He's the single greatest thing I've done in my life and reminds me daily of how fun (and funny) life can be.  He's turned out pretty swell for having such a heartless and evil mother.
  • my husband actually found the positive test in the trash. i was so used to seeing negative that i didn't wait the full 3 mins before throwing it away. He came and found me and asked if i had anything to tell him.  I went to the bathroom while watching a movie at the house and came out with it to show him. then the blood test confirmed it.

For family and close friends, we just had them over/call them and told them we are pregnant.

everyone else got a FB update

  • I told my DH by buying two little pairs of baby shoes (one for girl, one for boy since we didn't know yet obviously) and then I wrapped those up with the + PT and wrapped it first in a bag with stuffing, then in a box which I wrapped in wrapping paper then in another bag with a ton more stuffing on top of it so it took him about ten minutes to actually get to it.

He started crying immediately and asked me if that meant we were having twins haha so I guess it failed on that part.

  • Odds are I won't take the test without H there. I'm not stable enough to do that *** alone, I tend to panic over important events. And unimportant ones, but that's neither here nor there.

We'll probably end up buying a second car after I get pregnant so I'll probably just throw a car seat in it, take a couple pictures and send it to my close family. That way I'll know if they actually read my emails, or if they just say, "cool car" and that's it.

  • We've done a few different things.

We took a picture of ourselves and put in a double frame with a note that said

    Cost of frame $

    Cost of developing $

Letting you know there are 3 people in this picture- Priceless

Some got it right away, some didnt.  We like having fun with it.
