Need Rec: Stroller for new baby + small 4 year old

We are currently TTC baby #2 - My daughter will be 4 by the time we get PG and new baby is here. DD is on the smaller side (30/31 lbs) and still enjoys to ride in a stroller. I really don't want a side-by-side double stroller, especially since DD is getting older now and won't want/need to ride in the stroller much longer. That said, I do want something for when she doesn't feel like walking at the zoo, mall, etc.

I am currently looking at the Britax B-Ready w/2nd Seat: https://www.amazon.com/Britax-B-Ready-Stroller-2nd-Seat/dp/B003VKW4TQ/ref=sr_1_12?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1359988544&sr=1-12&keywords=britax+b-ready+and+2nd+seat

Does anyone have any experience with this stroller? Or a recommendation for a stroller that works great for them? TIA for any advice!

  • My friend has a tiny 3 yo, (27lbs) and is due next month and she got the Graco Tour Quattro. She decided not to spend a ton of money on a double since she isn't anticipating her DD riding in it forever.

  • given that age spread i would pick a single that has the option to add a second seat.

but if you arent even pregnant yet its a bit early, there will be all new strollers by then, and your daughter might decide she doesnt really want to ride in the stroller anymore.  You could always use a single that would work for either kid and then wear the baby if your daughter wants to ride.

Those were my thoughts as well :) I don't like the idea of a "true" double stroller -- I want something that has the option to add it when I need it. I think even at 4/5, she won't want to walk an entire zoo (we go quite a bit because we have a great zoo within 45 mins of our house) - So, that 2nd seat seems like a great compromise.

ETA: I am purchasing a new stroller ASAP because our old stroller has bit the dust. I figured I might as well get something that will work with baby #2 :)

That makes sense, I was wondering if maybe it was broken, because otherwise thats a lot of planning :)

As for which one, I would just try a few and see what you like, phil and ted has a bunch, mountain buggy,  uppa  baby, etc.

  • The B-Ready will give you 2 full featured seats and if you think that's what you will need, I would do that.  Mountain Buggy has some as well but it depends on what type of seating arrangement you want.

  • My DD was always one to enjoy riding in the stroller but by age 4, she really didn't need it any more. DD was 4 years, 3 months old when my DS was born and I have never felt like I needed a double stroller. If I were in your shoes, I would buy a new single stroller.

  • We have the B Ready and are using it at as DSNG right now.  I LOVE it.  Seriously every thing about it, so if you are considering getting that on I think it's a great choice.  We have the Chaperone infant seats and even with two of those on there I can walk very comfortably with one below.

  • We are looking at the bugaboo donkey and the orbit helix. Also looking at the bugaboo cameleon and just having a sibling board.
Married my BEST FRIEND on December 1, 2007. Started TTC in March 2008. Found out we were expecting our first child in October 2008 - but had a m/c in December 2008 - resulting in a d&e. Met with a RE in May 2009 and set a plan - but conceived unexpectedly on our own! Our precious little Sophia was born on February 9, 2010! Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

Id look to attaching a buggy board on a single at that age.

  • DD will be 3 months shy of 4 when LO gets here (due 3/3) and I decided not to waste money on a double stroller. Short of a trip to Holiday in the Park at Six Flags DD hasn't ridden in a stroller since before he 3rd birthday. While, yes- she enjoyed being pushed in the stroller this past December- being pregnant I wanted to hold on to her independent "I can do it myself" personality so I wasn't pushing a newborn and a 4 year old in a stroller. There are always exceptions, I am aware, but DD is a big girl and can walk. I have considered getting a boogy board attachment that acts as a skateboard type thing so if she got tired she could jump on, but realistically she hasn't needed a stroller in over a year- we aren't back tracking now.

I bought a BOB Revolution to start running again after LO is here and she wants to climb in it now, but I tell her that strollers are for babies and she can help push.
