Tilted Uterus?!

I'm 11 weeks 1 day and today I had my second prenatal appt. My OB tried to find the baby's heartbeat with the doppler but couldn't and got the US out and there the baby was, quite a lil jumping bean! HR was 160's : So anyway, I was told I have a tilted uterus which I didn't have with my DS. I don't know much about it but I'm assuming it tilted during the delivery of my DS. Anyone know more about it or have one too?

Re: Tilted Uterus?!

  • I dont know if I have always had one but I did with dd. I am not sure if I still do bt I am hoping that is the reason they could not find the heartbeat at my 9 week apt. I am very nervous about ky next appt on friday

  • I had one the first time through, don't know if it is straightened out now or not.  Doesn't mean much as it usually straightens as you progress.

  • I have one too but I don't think it's a real big deal. They have to really go in from a downward angle with the speculum to do an exam and when I went for my 8 week check up she didn't even try with the Doppler because she said with the angle it's harder, but they were able to this week at my 12 week check up.

  • Mine is tilted backwards but with pregnancy it pops back forward. It really isn't a big deal at all.

ETA: My uterus has been tilted as long as I can remember so during my cycle instead of stomach cramps I have bad back cramps and that is how my GYN explained it to me.

  • I had a tilted uterus early on with DS.  When pregnancy progressed it straightened.

I don't think there is any issues as far as just having a tilted uterus, other than it may be more difficult to hear a hb.

  • During my yearly exam one time, the OB mentioned I have a tilted uterus. When I asked what that meant he said "Some people have blue eyes, some people have brown eyes, some people have tilted a uterus." It's NBD (no big deal). It usually straightens out when your baby gets bigger and heavier.

  • Mine is tilted back as well. My midwife said it usually straightens out as it expands, so no big deal.
  • Yes after DD I found ou that mine is tilted back, so much so that my OB/MW didn't even bother trying to do a transvaginal u/s with this pregnancy I only had abdominal.  I also couldn't find the heartbeat with a doppler until 12 weeks, with DD I was able to find it at 10 weeks.  Like everyone else, I was told that it will straighten as the pregnancy progresses.

  • Mine is tilted to the right.  It was with DS. It never straighted out.  He was always hanging out on the right side.  But it didn't cause any problems.

  • I found out I have a tilted uterus at my first u/s. The tech said it isn't a big deal. She said it might be harder to hear the baby's heartbeat on a Doppler. I'm not really worried about it.

  • Mine was a hard tilt to my back and is still slightly tilted towards my back. I was told it may not straighten out until 20 weeks. It's a hereditary thing for me, all the girls on my Mom's side of the family have a tilted uterus, so it was expected. It caused cramps in my back during my period, my midwife said it may be why I'm having such bad back pain, she thinks my uterus might be pushing on my spine a bit earlier than for most. Also, I've been told it makes it far more likely I'll have back labor, but beyond that, it doesn't really cause any problems.

  • I have posted on bleeding spotting post..just went for my 12 week apt and dr couldn't find heart beat did internaal all seemed ok except I was bleeding which happens in 25 women...had to get songram at different location cause the tech wasn't in.. found out I have a tilted uterus and had a miscarriage...not sure if the uterus did it or what the problem was but it didn't straighten itself out which websites say it should..this explains the pain during sex though so I must have had this for a while and never new. I didn't have it with my first son but he is 6 so it must have happened after he was born I'm guessing. Also I want to know why it wasn't detected in my 6 week sonogram it must have been present then. So all the what ifs start occuring if I had know could we have presented the miscarriage? Good luck to all
  • ETA: didn't notice this was a super old thread
