She Should've Made A Citizen's Arrest

On Saturday I was on my way to teach my babysitting/CPR class and I had my rolling briefcase on the front passenger seat, with a naked doll in it, face down. I pulled in to a drive-thru, and when I got to the window, the lady hands me my drink and then gives me a very strange look and abruptly shuts the door.

A minute later, she opens it back up, hands me my food, and the her eyes get reallllllly big and she starts to laugh. I'm like, 'Uh, what?'

She says, "When you pulled up here, I thought that was a real babyin the front seat. I thought it was illegal for them to ride up there."

So I replied, 'Well, you're correct they're not supposed to ride in the front seat. But even more importantly, this baby is face-down in a plastic crate, so it would have even bigger problems. Hopefully you would've called the police right away, or at least made a citizen's arrest.'

From there she proceeded to ask me a million questions about carseat laws, which carseat is best for her under-weight toddler, etc. I'm still not even sure what the heck went down. I am thankful that I happen to be very involved with carseat knowledge so I felt comfortable answering her questions. Who knows what might be going on in the mind of someone so impressionable. It was the most bizarre morning ever. I think I live in the Twilight Zone, or at least the Jim Carrey movie where he doesn't know his life is fake.

  • Hahaha, this story is great!  I seriously can't stop laughing.

I mean, I always ride around with my naked baby face down in a crate on the front seat of the car.  LOL.

  • Haha - that's hilarious.

It reminds me of that show "What Would You Do?" I don't know if it's still on. They basically set up a questionable situation, then have cameras set up to catch people's reactions. Then they interview people to see why they did/didn't do anything. I believe I saw an episode or two where they did stuff with fake babies. I can just see them interviewing drive-thru operators, asking "Why didn't you say anything to the woman who had her baby in the front seat in a plastic crate? What if she'd had an accident after she left here?"

And duh - the reason he was face-down in a plastic crate is because he was sleeping when you left the house, and you didn't want to wake him up!.

Ten years ago before Jackass was a movie, on the TV show version, they had a skit where a guy is on a bike and a "baby" goes flying out of its seat when he crashes he bike. Watching people's reactions were amazing.
