IUD and insurance

Did your insurance pay for your IUD?  Does anyone have Cigna insurance?

Re: IUD and insurance

  • Mine paid for the minipill but not my IUD. Guess they would have been cool with another 40k dollar pregnancy.

It was 1000 dollars out of pocket which was still the cheapest option given how long it lasts and it's effectiveness

  • I had to pay $200 out of pocket for the Mirena. You can call your insurance company and find out before you decide.

  • All insurance companies should now cover them under the ACA, unless your new policy year starts later than January

  • If I'd gotten it in 2012 it would have been 20% after meeting my deductible (which I had thanks to the baby) - so about $187. I opted to wait until after January 1 to get it, and the device and insertion were covered 100% under my plan thanks to the ACA.

  • BCBS 100% in Aug since the plan started in July and they decided to start covering BC at 100% at the start of the plan year rather than waiting until Jan 1.
  • I had Cigna when I got mine, I think I paid a copay for the office visit, but didn't have any payment for the IUD or the insertion.
