Re: Gift ideas

  • I like to give books.  We just gave our friend's LO the Tickle Monster Laughter Kit and they loved it.

  • -I like the idea of books too. More and more people don't buy them...and the teacher in me means there can never be enough books!

-Another idea is a gift certificate for a toddler play house or mommy and me class that you have in your area. You could just do a certain dollar amount if you don't want to buy a package and then they can enjoy an experience together instead of the hundreds of toys they are likely to get.

-GC to a picture place for first bday pictures. You could always tie some balloons or a small toy around it to give it some personality.

-I love Melissa and Doug toys (I buy mine at Marshalls or TJ Maxx, way cheaper) but they are mostly made of wood so durable, and educational.

I'm trying to think what my nieces and nephews have liked but I'm coming up blank, if I think of some more I'll add it. The good thing about a 1 year old is that you can get away with not giving toys if you want because when they are older that will never fly :)

  • We're also the "book-giving" relatives in our family. Niece & nephew get books for every birthday and Christmas, and it's actually worked out very well.

I also like the idea of wooden blocks. I got DD the Uncle Goose alphabet ones with the little wooden cart to hold them. They're on the pricey side, but there are different sets you can get, and they're super high quality. I seem to remember you can get name sets, different languages, different styles, etc.

All of this! We give books most of the time, too. We're "those" relations.

  • Like PPs said books are always a good gifts. I've also done blocks. Land of Nod has some great block sets (& other unique gifts) that are fun and I've also gotten more simple stuff (that the kids tend to love) like Mega Block sets (the wagon) and dolls.  It really depends on who the gift is for IMO & diff families seem to like diff stuff.

  • I also love to give/receive books! Another idea is a big bucket of bath toys...they have cute water flutes and other instruments. DD has these foam letters that stick to the tub and tiles that she loves. She also has bath crayons that she has a ball with.

  • There are a lot of great ideas above that I agree make great gifts.  The only other thing I can think of is passes or an annual membership (depending on budget) to a zoo, aquarium, children's museum, etc... I have a family member who loves giving annual zoo memberships for toddler birthday gifts and I think that is an amazing gift to receive.
