Potty training and dentist??

Our kids are the same age, so I wanted to ask you all.
When do you plan to start potty training I have a boy?
When are you planning to take LO to the dentist for the first time?
I heard boys usually start potty training later at around 2yo.
My dr said around first bday to start taking LO to the dentist. Isn't that early!? I know he will freak out. He isn't a fan of brushin his teeth and we started that when he got his first tooth!

Re: Potty training and dentist??

  • We'll go to the dentist if he ever gets any teeth. Or maybe we'll end up AT the dentist because he DOESN'T have teeth. I read somewhere that 18 months is when they start to worry about teeth not coming in.

Potty training.... I have a little potty, and I'll probably get it out and maybe start sitting DS on it, just to get used to it. I don't expect him to be potty trained before 2, though.

  • Potty:  We are picking up one this weekend.  M is starting to indicate when she needs to go, so we figure it doesn't hurt to introduce her.  I meant to get one a long time ago, and just keep forgetting about it.  I'm not sure how serious we'll get about actual training yet, we'll have to see whether or not she's interested.  We have baby #2 due in June, so I've decided not to push training before then, even though it will suck having two in diapers for a while.

Dentist:  Our pedi assured us that unless there is a problem, we don't need to go to the dentist until DD is 2-3 years old.  She said that all they really do at this age is count/check the teeth and talk to you about dental hygiene and care.  As long as we're brushing (or at least attempting) on a regular basis at home, that's good enough.

  • We have a potty and have been sitting on it since the start of the year.  We have yet to have a success but she LOVES to sit on it and read books . . . like father like daughter I guess haha.  We are very casual about it and if she chooses not to sit that is fine.  She typically goes whenever one of us uses the bathroom.

Dentist: I have yet to take her.  We probably should as she has 14 teeth.  I am not crazy about our dentist and don't want her to go there, so I guess I should start looking for a pediatric dentist. I will as the pedi for a recommendation at her 18 month check up in a few weeks.  She loves brushing her teeth so I hope that bodes well for dentist visits . . .

  • Potty training: I don't plan on busting out th epotty until we are moved into our new house, so probably in June. Plus I need my kid to actually walk first.

Dentist: I don't know. Not yet.

  • Potty training:  Not until she's ready (exhibiting certain potty training signs).

Dentist:  We didn't put her on the insurance this year so we will next year.  So she won't go until next January.

  • Potty training we are working on. Mich sorta tells me when she has to go and I ask about every 30 mins or so. Sometimes she says yes and runs to the bathroom other times she says no.
My dentist said not to bring her in until she was 3 before then they don't understand what is going on and can get scared eaiser. Unless there is a problem.
