Re: Teething tablets

  • I don't think they work at all-- we use the homeopathic oragel and it seems to help
  • Loading the player...
  • Our doctor said absolutely not To use them but I have friends who swear by them. Interestingly an article in parents mag said not to use them... But then they advertised them a few pages later ???

  • like all homeopathic things, they are a crock. the ingredients are diluted so much, they are barely even there. here is the back of the hyland's box. see those 6X, 12X? that means that's how much it's diluted. 6 times, 12 times.

Homeopathic remedies are made by dissolving the plant extract in a mixture of approximately 90 percent alcohol and 10 percent distilled water. The mixture is left to stand for two to four weeks, shaken occasionally, and then strained. The resulting liquid is known as the mother tincture. For example, a 3X indicates that the mother tincture has been diluted by a factor of 1:10 three times. Each time, one drop of the mother tincture is mixed with 9 drops of an alcohol/water mixture and succussed, or shaken vigorously.

    you are paying for nothing.

So, you explained this in a very educational manner.

I really hate having to give my DS tylenol. Is there anything you know of, aside from the homeopathic "remedies" that helps a teething LO?

DD has not started teething yet, so i have yet to cross this bridge. like you, i also don't want to give her tylenol all the time, so i plan on trying things like a frozen washcloth for her to gnaw on. if you do go the medicine route though, i have heard ibuprofin works better than tylenol for teething pain. you can give babies ibuprofin once they are 6 months old. good luck! i'm scared for teething! lol
  • We use them and they seem to work fine for him. We've given him them when he's woken up a few times and then he slept fine right after taking them.
I've actually been wondering if you can use them too much, obvi no more than the recommended 4 times a day.

  • I ordered some, but then read up on the ingredient belladonna and decided not to use them afterall.

I sometimes use tylenol (esp. when fever accompanies teething pain) although I don't like to too often....I just hate to see her hurting... a frozen washcloth really helps too.

    I did the same thing.

We also freeze BM and put it in a mesh feeder.  Sometimes he will get an icecube if we are out. That seems to help him.  We usually only give him tylenol at night before bed if at all

  • We used the "natural" orajel in the beginning and it seemed to work.  Then a friend told us that apparently we shouldn't use the gel cause it can numb LO's throat so we moved to the tablets.  The tablets don't seem to work as well... I don't know if they just don't work at all and he just goes back to sleep out of exhaustion or if they just take longer to work.
