Bedtime

What's your bedtime routine? We do bath on every other night and I think it confuses DD. We do bath, pj's, nurse/rock in bedroom ad bed on one night and then same routine without bath. She's starting crying for an hr or two during bedtime now. Bedtime is at 7 each night...suggestions?

Re: Bedtime

  • We used to do a bath in the FP whale tub, every other day as part of D's bedtime routine but it would either tick him off or energize him. Then by accident I found he really likes our shower. So our routine goes like this.

7pm - Zantac and 5-10 minutes in the shower with me or DH

Once we get out he gets a fresh sleep n play and swaddled and then the cluster feeding starts. During the first boob I will read to him, which takes about 15 minutes until he releases. We do at least a 5 minute burp session then he wants the other boob. At that point I sit in the rocking chair with no lights on at all. I normally end up cluster feeding until around 10pm when he finally passes out and I cannot get him to latch any more.

Sadly, his long sleep stretch at that point is only 3 hours.  A few nights this week he went 4 hours but I considered it a fluke.

  • Our bedtime routine starts around 9.30pm and we feed one boob, bathe, lotion, dressing nightgown, feed second boob, swaddle, top off and rock to sleep as needed. We do this every night.
  • I used to do morning baths but now starting around 7 he gets a bath each night, (although i might start only using soap every other night), then books in bed with mommy, then nurse, then sleep, he's usually out by 8-8:30. He rarely fusses after eating which has allowed him to chillax and fall asleep. I've been pleased with this routine so far, he's sleeping 8-4. Around 1 he gets a little ancy. I give him a pacifier and he falls right back asleep. Feeding at 4, then asleep til 6 or 7 depending on how loud and annoying his dog sisters are in the morning. Grr.

  • Our bedtime has been consistent for a good 6 weeks now. We do bath every night, but only use soap every other night. This starts anywhere between 745 and 830. After bath, he gets fresh pjs, which includes an undershirt gerber shortsleeve onesie, socks, long sleeve sleep n play, and mittens. Then he gets a prayer from mom and dad and then bottle from me in the living room with all the lights off and soft music on while hubby plays games next to me. Then LO sleeps on me for a good 30 min and then straight to the crib. Usually by 930 he is in the crib. He wakes up around 4 to eat and then up for the day at 6:30.
  • I have started bath time every night, I was doing it every other night.

Come 6pm I will start to get Z ready for bed. We have a bottle between 4-5pm. Then DH and I eat dinner. Then Z gets a bath, lotioned up, and back downstairs for another bottle. I rock him to sleep in the recliner and then take him to his bassinet.

I went from going to bed at 12am (when he first came home) to pushing it back to 10pm (about a month and a half) and the past few nights we have done 8pm.  He does sleep through the night. He's been STTN since about a month old. We get up anywhere between 7-9am. He does want to get up about 4am but I take him from his bassinet to our bed, put the paci in his mouth, and he goes right back to sleep.

  • We do a bath every other night.  Ds has really dry skin. I don't have a real involved or stringent routine. We just make sure he is fed and has a fresh diaper and put him down around 8:30-9:30. He will sleep til 5 or 6 am. He just started daycare so this may change. I remember dd going to bed early bc she was worn out from daycare.
