What did you have to have as a Mom that turned out to be a waste of money either because you could have bought a cheaper one or done without.
I will start a separate post for what you wish you had or what you threw out and regret.
And this is not at all a criticism of the poster below, as Moms to be we all thought we needed things that were a waste and some of those things were even recommended by other Moms.
Jen - Mom to two December 12 babies
Nathaniel 12/12/06 and Addison 12/12/08
Re: s/o below post, what was a waste of money
expensive diaper bag
Potty rings
Expensive Baby Bjorn potty instead of cheap Ikea one
Bumper set which I new was a waste but wanted anyway
Cheap Jeep carrier instead of good one
Tons of small toys
Infant carrier toy bars that did not fit
Really wish I did not register for convertible car seat because by the time DS was using the seat it was over a year old and expired too quick
Bumbo seat, used a handful of times and made for a cute pic but total waste of money
I am sure there are tons of others
Wipe warmer, bed set, and swing.
Expensive diaper bags
Video monitor
Baby bullet
Ergo
Anything NEW (as long as the furniture was not not recalled).
Diaper genie
breast pump (I could not produce milk even after taking the teas and Rxs)
I would have cut the number of NB - 6mo clothes in half.
Name Brand formula
Pack n Play - It was only ever used as toys storage or by guests. We have a 1300 sq ft ranch. I could see how they could be very useful for a larger house.
Cute baby clothes- All my kids have had reflux and puked on everything. It's very rare that my babies wear something that isn't a onsie and baby legs.
Travel system/ stroller for a pumpkin seat- I only used it a handful of times with DS 1&2. I've never used it with DS3. I either carry him in his pumpkin seat or a baby carrier.
There were a lot of other things like bottle and wipes warmers that I never bothered in the first place.
Ditto the pack n play and the mobile I bought extra for it.
I was going to add new stuff like Ilumine said but most of it was bought for us at the shower and no one would have gone consignment shopping for me, lol. Although the handmedown exersaucer singing pieces that DS LoVED stopped working before he outgrew it, I bought a new one for DD and she used it twice because of her torticolis and scoliosis she was not supposed to use them.
And what is a baby bullet, those words should not be used together.
And the big high chair, waste of space. And I love how they say those things fold and yet when you fold them the front and back are not the same height so you cannot even stand it.
I HAD to have this expensive changing table for dd. my mom tried to tell me just to put the pad on top of the dresser but I was super snooty and threw a small hissy fit for it to my H. I'm not proud of my 6 yr old antics in the least. We used it for a yr, it broke partially from me putting too much weight on the middle section so it was always popping off. Ugh. When my DS came along we couldn't fit that w 2 dressers and 2 cribs in the nursery, so we gave it to my sister. It has been so much easier using the darn pad on the dresser and looks so much nicer. Wish I would have listened to my mom.
We were gifted almost everything for our kids. We have been so blessed. I also was pretty reasonable w what we 'needed' with a few exceptions. Didnt want the video monitor, an episode of Oprah scared me w strangers spying on you using them. DH warned me about the bottle warmer and wipe warmer. I BF both babies anyway. I DID purchase the queen bee of Medela pumps w a gift card and 20 off coupon. I used that thing like crazy. Worth the for me. Got the expensive baby Bjorn... Worth it bc it helped my back, but dd hated it. DS loved it so it wasn't a complete waste. Both kids bedding was ridiculous price, but again gifted... Lol. Wouldn't have bought it myself. I had receiving blankets coming out my ears. Didnt need them all. I have a bullet so I didn't buy the baby bullet, had I not had it I totally would have purchased it. Making DD's food proved to be a waste of time though, she hated everything I made. I was so hell bent on 'organic fresh made by me' food. Ya... Didnt happen. She wanted nothing of it.
Expensive diapers. OMG... I found Luvs and haven't looked back since. I think they are good in the beginning for the super goopy water poop, but once they hit size 2 ish Luvs are totally ok. I haven't had a problem or blow out at all with both kids.

Thanks for posting this, Littlejen22! I love hearing feedback about different products from a variety of people!
We haven't made too many purchases that we don't deem as necessary yet because I don't want to waste money on things we don't need. For instance, I haven't bought a breast pump yet because I don't know that I'll be able to breastfeed. If I'm able to, I'll purchase one.
I also recently decided that we probably won't get a free-standing high chair. We don't have room in our home for one. We'll probably get a seat & tray that attaches to a chair. Bumbo? Always thought I would want one...probably won't get one. The list goes on.

Wipe warmer
Bumbo, DS used it a handful of times. He was just too wiggly for it, and he preferred his bouncer.
Borrow a breast pump if you can, at least at first. I had a used one. It was fantastic. It has been used by many moms, friends and family. Original.cost was over 400, but we borrowed it to see if I could BF and pump at first. Then when DS had to switch to formula due to stomach problems, we were able to give it back without having purchased one.
We also had a portable high chair. It belted into the kitchen table chair, reclined for younger ages, and later turns into.a.booster. DS used it until he was big enough to sit in a regular chair. The cover and belts came off super easily for machine washing, and the rest of plastic for easy clean. The tray was dishwasher safe. And after each meal, it slid under the table and out of the way.
Our apartment was only about 600sqft so space was everything to me.
ETA:And It was the Fisher Price Space Saver High Chair. But there are others on the market now too.
The bedding set. Never used the bumpers, and the sheets are still changed a ton so it never matches the curtains or anything. I dont know why I bothered! Bumbo was not as much of a waste, but I dont think it was necessary for the price.
The big bulky hair chair, I wish I had went with a space saver chair that turned into a booster from the get go. Small house, like pp.
Infantino Carrier - I had one with DS and used it twice because it absolutely killed my back. I have a K'Tan this time, and I'm in love so far.
Baby Tub - Again, I had one with DS and it was a waste of space and hard to clean because it had weird crevices. With DD I have a nice folding thing that sits in the bath tub.
Over 70 stuffed animals - I wish I was joking. I think everyone I knew gave DS a stuffed animal. It was ridiculous. I sorted through them when he was about 3 months old and only kept maybe 5.
