DH in the dog house....BIG TIME!

I just need to vent...I almost 41 wks and DH knows we are on borrowed time so he told me he would not drink until after the baby was born so he will be ready to drive me to the hospital at any moment. Keep in mind i have been his DD for 9 months so i thought this is the least he could do. So today he gets out of work early and decides to have a fire in the back yard which apparently sends a smoke signal to our neighbors to come over.  Needless to say about  an hour into the impromptu  block party he gets a buzz on.  He comes into the house to check on me and our 4yr old and I tell him he needs to stop before he gets hammered, he said he would only to turn right back around to take 4 more shots and 3 beers.  He has since been passed out since 8.  Secretly I am hoping to go into labor tonight so he can feel like crap. I know this sounds horrible, but he seems to use my pregnancies as an excuse to get loaded whenever we go anywhere. Thanks for the vent.

  • Wow - I am sorry, not to upset you more than you already are, or make more of this than it is - - but this is really messed up.  If you're nearly 41 weeks along, then your DH is absolutely taking some big risks here.  Not to mention, you have a 4 year old child - even if you didn't need your DH to take you in to the hospital or something, what if he had to take care of your kid for awhile while you were laboring at home??

  • Wow, yeah I am with all other PP, very immature and I am very sorry! I'd KILL my DH and he knows it, not that he really likes drinking that often, but even if he did, he DEFINITELY would not be in my last few weeks.

The fact that you're overdue is what makes it worse I think, but regardless you asked him not to, and had a VERY good reason for it. *hugs* I am sorry.

  • I'm sorry! I'm in a similar situation tonight also. He went out with his best friend to watch some basketball game and came home at bar close. Plus I had finally gotten our puppy to sleep, who they of course woke up when they tried to "quietly" come in...... Now it's 430, he is sound asleep and I have a puppy that doesn't want to go back to bed.

  • This is where I leave a big giant note that says, "I went to the hospital to have the baby while you were drunk.  Since they won't let you in until you don't smell like an alehouse, sorry about your luck.  Should have thought about that before you selfishly indulged in being an a-hole.  I'll call you when I am done pushing."  Of course, I'd be in the living room or something but adrenaline rush to sober up oughta make him think twice about doing it again.

    I third this.

What a selfish horrible thing to do. I hope that this is not a behavior he intends to continue. What kind of message does that send to you 4 year old! I know we don't have a lot of context here but my SO (not even husband) hasn't drank my ENTIRE PREGNANCY because I couldn't either, quit smoking, and has been checking on me constantly while he works since we are at a high risk of preterm labor. I couldn't imagine dealing with someone who uses your pregnancies as an excuse to drink. Insert naughty name here. I hope he shapes up mama :/
