Success after IF

HSG test and secondary infertility?

I'm not sure what to do. I had my lo through iui and trying for 2nd with no luck with iui. I had done the fertility testing 2.5 years ago when I had my lo. But trying for my 2nd, they went straight to iui, no testing since it was fine yrs ago. So should I push to test again? Could scar tissue form or something change after a pregnancy? I'm just having a hard time understanding why it's not working this time. In not ready to move to ivf. Tia!

Re: HSG test and secondary infertility?

  • Did you have a c-section? Or an infection postpartum?  Those are 2 major reasons for scar tissue after birth.

  • Oh ok. No. Vacuum delivery and ouch!!!
  • I think most testing is only good for a year or so. I would definitely get testing redone. I wouldn't be as worried about scar tissue etc than hormone levels. GL!!!

  • My RE does prefers a sono every 6 months and an HSG within a year of treatment.  We skipped the HSG since we went straight to IVF, but I needed more surgery before TTC #2.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • Another vote for redoing the tests. Also, a vacuum delivery can cause some trauma that leads to adhesions or scar tissue. I think we my RE we have to have an HSG done every year and bloodwork every 6 months.
  • How many IUI's have you done?

Also, alot can happen in 2.5 years with respect to hormones, etc. so other than the expense, I would think it might be worth it to have both bloodwork and the HSG, etc. done before you move to IVF.
