Diaper Changing

I don't know if this is just a boy thing, but now every single time I change DS's diaper, his hand shoots to grab himself and the dirty diaper. He thinks it's hilarious. I used to be able to keep the dirty diaper under him, wipe him clean, put the dirty wipes in the dirty diaper and put the new one on. Now, I almost immediately have to hide the dirty diaper to keep his hands out of it! That makes poop diapers a nightmare to hold his butt up off of the changing table without getting poop everywhere! Now I have to wipe his hands off after a diaper change. Yes, I give him toys to play with on the table, but as soon as he feels that freedom, the toy gets thrown and the hands go down. Anyone else?

Re: Diaper Changing

  • I know exactly what you mean. Diaper changing is a nightmare over here! We also have to cover him up with washcloth so he doesn't pee everywhere, too. He pees almost immediately after his diaper is off. Same for poop...he grabs everything down there unless he has something else to distract him. Blah!

  • since about 4 months.  Infact I was a little worried that DD had a UTI because of how often she was exploring. Every diaper change and every bath. Once she became fascinated with her belly button, I relaxed and realized she was just self exploring. I suppose that area is on "lock down" most of the time since she is always in the diaper and at least a onsie.

I was just thinking the other day about how Micah hasn't found his belly button yet. I'm guessing it's because he can only see it in the bath, and well, water is far too fascinating to focus on holes in one's belly.

  • must be about the developmental age where they find themselves.  DS recently started doing the same.  Thankfully, I can usually keep him out of the poopy diapers.  I do let him 'explore' once I've gotten things cleaned up.
