DD1 has been using her's for a year now. She's about to turn 3 and still uses it 99% of the time. She can use the potty much more independently with the ring than without, so I don't see us stopping anytime soon.

DS uses the toilet at home and away without a ring. At home he has a small step. He's totally independent with the toilet, though I sometimes have to do a small extra wipe for him after #2
Good question! I tried to put DS on our toilet one day that doesn't have the ring like his does and he literally almost fell in before I caught him. So, not yet for us!
We have had it for less than a month and threw away the old potty ring immediately and our DD loves this so much better. We plan on having it for years to come. It makes it so much easier to use when you have guests.
