Preemies

XP - my 31wker is 1 today!

Hi, Ladies... This is
full of AW, but I feel that I have a ton to be thankful for. I can hardly believe how time has passed. Seriously, it feels like just yesterday I was writing my birthstory on the bump. Link to it here.
As time passes, I can hardly believe that any of that actually happened. I actually am more emotional about it now than I was then. Probably, I know the facts/stats about survival rates, long term disabilities, and also because everyday I fall more in love with him & his little personality.

We are so fortunate that he is doing so well. H is quite a handful, crawling everywhere, standing and "walking" around tables, etc. He'll be walking soon I'm sure. Yesterday, he made it up 1 step on his own. We haven't had is 1 yr pedi visit, but my home scale says he is 19lbs. We go back to the NICU and several other specialized (hearing, vision) appointments to check on development. And, we're also continuing with EI which I find reassuring that we're on the right track. He does have a minor cyst in his urethra that the pedi urologist says that should be removed. It requires general anesthesia, but should only require a 1 night hospital stay - thats scheduled for early April. Hopefully, we can move beyond all of this medical stuff soon! He is mainly on purees, but will eat puffies and breads. He loves bananas, hates mixed veggie purees. He also is a huge Elmo fan.

I quit pumping about 2 weeks ago (2 weeks shy of my 1 yr goal). I came down with a terrible flu over
New Years which pretty much killed my supply. He had been getting some formula, but now that's exclusively what he is getting. I'm really proud of myself about this. I had literally no idea how hard it would be, and only 1 in 4 mommas with NICU babies are able to successfully pump (something about
separation anxiety).

As for what's next, well DH & I are going to try for #2... I have been seeing an MFM (high risk ob) who has given me the all clear. I'll obviously be closely followed. Hopefully no bedrest, but it's a given that I'll be getting P17 injections. We aren't officially TTC, but we're doing nothing to avoid either. It's kind of fun! They never were successful at figuring out why I went into PTL, but they think that it had something to do with my weight. I'm naturally very thin and for some reason thin (and obese) individuals have a much higher risk of infection which then causes PTL.

Looking forward to seeing all of your babies turn 1 next!!!

  • Happy Birthday Henry!!  I was just thinking about him and realized I missed his bday by a day!  I hope it was a happy one!

That is SO awesome that you made it almost a full year pumping...you ARE a super mom!!

It sounds like he is doing really well growing!  I think Gavin is maybe 17 lbs. now?  He hasn't been officially weighed in about 6 weeks (we go for his 1 year on the 12th) but last time he was almost 16 lbs.  That is great that H is about 19!

And how exciting to be thinking about baby #2!  I pray that you have no complications this time.  We will be considered high risk next time as well, but for different reasons.  I tell myself at least we will get lots of ultrasounds!

I cannot believe Gavin will be 1 too in just 5 days...where did the time go?!
