Birth announcements...when to take pictures?

I really haven't given my birth announcements much thought until now.  My girls were born at 30w2d and are still in the NICU at 35 weeks.  Do I get their pictures taken when they get home and send them out? Or is that too late for a "proper" birth announcement?

Re: Birth announcements...when to take pictures?

  • We did our newborn photos two weeks after they came home from the NICU at 2d adjusted. We sent out the cards nearly 3m after they were born. It was a small thing I felt like reclaiming from a full term pregnancy.

  • I would do whatever is comfortable for you. I did not send out any announcements when my 26 weeker was born. When he turned 1 year, I sent out a card with a pic from the NICU and a pic at 1 year with his stats at birth and homecoming, thanking everyone for their support and prayers. Very much like the one above.
